I think Andrew Cuomo missed this training video...

... about sexual harassment in the workplace:

(It's a funny SNL skit, by the way, but with a lot of truth to it.)

Unless he did more than make vocal invitations in that regard, without being too lewd, I'm personally not too upset by it. It's more in the realm of me thinking, "You're old, dude, so just deal with it and wait until some woman first shows a strong interest in you."

I've had gay coworkers hit on me in the past, and I didn't like it either. But I just told them that I was straight with absolutely no interest in men, and that put an end to it.

and don't have a clue when we're interested in them or just there to do our damn jobs so we can pay the bills.

Usually it's the latter. "Don't shit where you eat" is the best policy. After work, in a bar, maybe we'll be a little more approachable.

As for the advice in the SNL skit, don't count on it. Being pressured for sex in the workplace is unpleasant, and it doesn't matter what the hell he looks like or how charming he thinks he's being.

I was straightforward about not being interested. Too many males out there thought they knew better. It was infuriating.

... at a workplace.

I might compliment a dress or a new hairstyle, mostly to to be nice, but people need to be careful doing that too.

Simply disallowing any such relationships from the workplace would be fine by me, but I know it's never going to be followed by some people.

And obviously there's some people in positions of power** who hope to bully the people working under them, trying to influence their non-work lives with threats to their jobs for non-compliance. And it's not always sexual.

** Which is the main reason that someone like Cuomo should never behave that way, even without the remotest threat to a person's job on the line.

In my experience, the men that sexual harassed, assaulted and discriminated against me were successful, cocky, white, entitled, frat boy types (young and old). The same kind of guy that claims date rape is "misunderstood" consensual sex. All the rapist I know, are not make believe "black man" or "Mexican", they are high school and college boys....let's tell the truth here. Those who think sexual harassment, assault and discrimination is funny....is sad and just tells me that maybe you were accused of "misunderstood" consensual sex.

Thanks for your input, though.

I'll take your word that those types are the usual culprits and admit that I don't REALLY know.

I've only heard about a couple cases in my work life, and it was old men in both cases. But that's obviously a tiny sample.

Edit: Unless we include the time that I complimented an old woman's perfume, when I was in my early 20's, as she stood in line at a bank in front of me. Then she whirled around to say, "I'm married!!" Okaaaay...
