How Biden handles the dispute could define his presidency and his party's political future. Some Democrats want him use his clout to persuade the holdouts. A congressional aide said moderate Democrats have privately joked that whatever Biden supports becomes the reasonable position in the party.

(68,565 posts)anything about this...we have a 50 50 senate. He has done what he could...what you want the GOP back in charge...so much better where we get nothing and they pack the courts? Imagine if Hillary had been elected...the but her email crowd opined that Trump wouldn't be worse-boy were they wrong ...we would have five seats on SCOTUS...probably thousands still alive. We would have policy.

(26,044 posts)...if we give in on this, we won't have "President Biden" for the next two years -- we'll have President Manchin. He will be able to control everything we do, but Biden and the rest of our Congressmembers will pay the price for it at the midterms.
And saying "it's not Biden's fault" is pointless. People elect a President to lead, and, if they can't get their own Party to go along with their plans, they're not going to look like much of a leader. I fear people will grow nostalgic for the days when "we had a strong President who could get what he wanted from his own Party" and will be eager to rush back to the same arrangement in 2024.
