"SNIP.....
New York Times: As the election returns rolled in showing President Donald Trump winning strong support from blue-collar voters in November while suffering historic losses in suburbs across the country, Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri, a Republican, declared on Twitter: We are a working class party now. Thats the future.
But since then, Republicans have offered very little to advance the economic interests of blue-collar workers
Inside and outside the party, critics see a familiar pattern: Republican officials, following Mr. Trumps own example, are exploiting the cultural anger and racial resentment of a sizable segment of the white working class, but have not made a concerted effort to help these Americans economically.
.....SNIP"

(14,853 posts)They care about people with established wealth, and they regularly try to kick away opportunities for others to join them.
Their right-wing propagandists around here used to commonly preach the message that poor people just need to work harder and longer, even if it takes three jobs, but it clearly didn't inspire many voters.
So those guys were replaced with outright liars and a change of focus to "cultural differences".

(16,083 posts)and that is: Hate.
They explicitly give white blue collar voters (White Men mostly) permission, no, orders to go forth and be as hateful and bigoted as humanly possible. They raise racism and anti-(name a group that isn't white men) up as if it is the most holy of things to strive for.
Between that an evangelical religion, they've turned those people (many of whom I'm related to) into...MAGATs.
I am a little bit glad to be stuck at home most of the time because I don't think I can even manage politeness around them anymore.

(14,853 posts)... stagnant blue collar wages on their employers supposedly having to pay very high taxes for the "welfare queens" who never work.
I heard that BS during my lunch break at a low-paying sweatshop, coincidentally, and the other poor white schmucks working there actually thought he was being truthful!
Edit: Then that underlying theme morphed over time, and became even more blatantly racist.

(89,244 posts)The people Trump won were racists, anti semites, misogynists , anti lgbtq etc.
This included people who may be low income , high income, blue collar or anything else. The reason they supported him was shared bigotry.

(118,583 posts)a bit more Latino and black male votes. Anti-feminism is a wedge that is catapulted in a way only men can hear. If republican women happen to hear it they say to themselves "but Nikki Haley" and discount it.
