Wondering about COVID vaccine side effects? Here are some observations from a doctor's perspective:

Health Matters: What to Expect After Getting the COVID-19 Vaccine

The chart below summarizes the two vaccines currently administered in Arlington. Both Pfizer and Moderna are considered “reactogenic” in that they stimulate a strong immune response with unpleasant but temporary side effects. Moderna, despite being less efficacious (94.1% vs. 95% for Pfizer), has 3x more vaccine than Pfizer (100 micrograms vs 30 micrograms for Pfizer), which may contribute to more side effects observed.

and experienced no side effects at all, not even a sore arm. I prepared myself in case I felt ill for a couple of days, but I was fine. So don't take for granted that you'll be ill. Be prepared, but don't make yourself think that you must have side effects.

Got second Moderna shot late Monday afternoon. Sore arm at site of injection that night, much less the next day. Much less on Wednesday. Nothing today, Thursday.
No other side effects.
Older experienced Nurse on the first shot said “Relax that arm.” I didn’t even know I was tense. Then she said”There you go.”

Some aches, little to no pain in my arm. I was thinking the worst as I get bad reactions to my flu shots. Next up, the 20th.

I had almost no reaction to Pfizer...your shot sounds like the reaction I get to my regular flu shots. My second shot is coming up. Hope that one goes as well.

and really laid on couch all day and woke up late the next day. Then was good. It was interesting because 8 hours into second shot I told son, only sore arm. 12 hours in started feeling funky. 24 hours was probably the peak but walking was hard, just so old like.

But I was happy no nausea.

still have to follow procedures so we do not get the new strain. I mean about the time we feel a little freedom, kinda get a splash of cold water in face. But then, it is a hot summer day, so cool. The cautions still hold. It does feel good to be done with it, even with a bit of mess for a day or two after the shot. I am glad you got your first one.

I had my 2nd Pfizer shot at about 2 this afternoon still feel fine but we’ll see if that stays that way.

Do what you have to do to get vaccinated, it is worth it physically and mentally.

Oh it was clear that more Vaccine was available where I got my shots this time....the whole layout in the huge floor they are using had changed considerably since my first shot.

The one constant was the same young lady that gave me my first shot gave me my shot today, a real fluke, they must have had 50 stations giving shots today.
