So after this relief bill passes essentially nothing else gets done for two years

Whatever bills the House passes the Senate will filibuster.... I guess it’s only function for the next two years is getting Biden judges put on the bench, which is a huge thing and something we need, but other than that, nothing is going to happen regarding legislation.....oh, and constant government shutdown talk with last minute deals

I believe that with democrats controlling both Chambers and budget bills able to pass via reconciliation, at the very least we should not have government shutdowns.

or dramatically changed, nothing will get done again, ever.

If HR1 never even gets a vote in the Senate, Republicans will manage to suppress enough votes in 2022 and 2024 that Democrats will never have even small majorities ever again.

Like GOP did for judges. So, they could do it for Voting Rights.

that will put millions to work. People in West Virginia, Arizona, and everywhere else. They will see that Democratic governance can improve their lives. They will also see that if the Reps get control again none of it will happen. Hmmmmmm...

We can all just watch everything slip through our fingers cuz there's fuck all we can do about any of it

After all, the rules of the filibuster can't be changed according to those "in the know". It's too late, cuz that ship sailed when the Senate "leaders" negotiated "the rules".

And it's apparently etched in stone and absolutely cannot be changed. according to certain people "in the know" .

Could we actually make the Republicans filibuster? At the very least, it would make them look ridiculous (not that they need help with that).

If it's just resistence to change that prevents some Democratic Senators from eliminating the filibuster, I don't know what we can do about it. But if they have a real reason, it would be worth seeing if that objection could be overcome.

My only hesitation is that the filibuster helped us prevent some shitty legislation from going through during Trump's first two years.

The filibuster saved ACA. Are we willing to risk being back in the minority with a crazy congress and president (and Supreme Court) that could pass just about anything?
