But not because he's handsy, it's because he lied.

After the state attorney general revealed earlier this year that thousands of deaths of nursing home residents had been undercounted, Mr. Cuomo finally released the complete data, saying he had withheld it out of concern that the Trump administration might pursue a politically motivated inquiry into the states handling of the outbreak in nursing homes.
But Mr. Cuomo and his aides actually began concealing the numbers months earlier, as his aides were battling their own top health officials, and well before requests for data arrived from federal authorities, according to documents and interviews with six people with direct knowledge of the discussions, who requested anonymity to describe the closed-door debates.
The central role played by the governors top aides reflected the lengths to which Mr. Cuomo has gone in the middle of a deadly pandemic to control data, brush aside public health expertise and bolster his position as a national leader in the fight against the coronavirus.
As the nursing home report was being written, the New York State Health Departments data contained in a chart reviewed by The Times that was included in a draft put the death toll roughly 50 percent higher than the figure then being cited publicly by the Cuomo administration.

(20,868 posts)Ireland that the primary place where people were dying, was in nursing homes, in fact my aunt contracted Covid from a lady in her room who died from it...my aunt survived .
Anyway, Rachel Maddow made a big splash on her show about how the Irish were locking down nursing homes, putting new procedures in place and getting some of the scarce PPE for staff, along with the equally scarce testing kits. And the Irish government still are criticised for their response, so hiding these numbers did have an effect at a time when there was pressure from Maddow at least, was showing what other countries were doing.

(38,601 posts)Have we forgotten Floridas ongoing funny business with numbers? The federal funny business that took over reporting and tried to start a whole new database just to obscure covid fatalities on a national level? The huge number of extra deaths in the US compared to normal years, not attributed to covid but most probably due to it?
Should he have lied? No. But its dopey to single him out for it.

(38,601 posts)NY got dealt a bad, bad hand with covid. Blindsided practically. The nursing home deaths suck, the coverup stinks.
He still did a really strong job in flattening the curve, and keeping the rest of us informed with his daily briefings when the feds let us down with their laughable ones.
If I were to pick one liar to make an example of especially about covid it wouldnt be him.

(13,850 posts)He was put on a pedestal back then. He could have straight up said: "We made mistakes and didn't know quite what we were dealing with. We can learn from this, and those lives are meaningful." People would have forgiven him in a second.
That's what is even more frustrating about the fudging the numbers.

And, he's my governor, not Noem or the rest of them, so I will speak out when he lies about dead people while posing as the Great Healer of Albany.

(23,187 posts)Cuomo's current plan is to seek a fourth term as Governor, I think he should shelve that plan and allow New York Democrats to instead pick another strong candidate in an orderly format to run for Governor next instead. Unless worse comes out, I don't think he should be forced out of office prematurely unless he starts behaving like an arrogant asshole. The jury remains out on the latter.

(13,850 posts)This is the scandal. This is the way in which his ego gets in the way of governing.
What he did to those women was inappropriate. It was harassing. But it doesn't rise to lying about deaths in order to make his admin seem less culpable in those deaths.

Stop it.

they had moved the deaths from one column to another, Donnie, the Congressional Repubs, and the entire American RightWing would have reported these as NEW, ADDITIONAL deaths, which of course they would not have been. However, as we've seen for several years now, there is a chunk of the country that is not phased by such nuances.
There were no ramifications of some being temporarily in column B, instead of column A. Nobody died. Nobody got hurt. Nothing happened. No reason the subsequent revision could not happen later.
