What did Bill Barr know of Trump's plans for January 6th? Why did Barr resign so abruptly in December? Why was he in such a hurry to put distance between himself and Trump? What caused him to leave the Trump administration so hastily?
Where has Barr been since then? Can he be subpoenaed to testify before Congress?
I have a suspicion that there's an important part of the story in Barr's actions. I think he knew Trump was going to try something with Congress. Can we find out?

(182,950 posts)I think, like anyone else, that he knew that Trump and Bannon were just trying to move the crowd towards the Capitol. Some true believer was going to make a break and others would follow. At least youd have an image of white males being beaten or detained by police. Legends were to be made that day - though most movement leaders didnt go inside - all the needed was more of an opportunity they knew that. Barr saw what was probably coming and didnt want to oversee busting, charging, and trying these loyal foot soldiers.

(30,613 posts)They had multiple major meetings in the days leading up to the insurrection.
Going all the way back to mid-December, Trump suddenly installed multiple loyalists at the Pentagon. That was preparation for January 6th.

(58,743 posts)especially since he buried some of them. Wouldn't mind seeing him in front of a Congressional committee, getting grilled.
great questions. no wonder they're stalling.

(7,925 posts)Mob violence and possibly the murder of members of Congress, Senators, and others in the building. I am sure he he got out because he wanted to be on a beach somewhere, collecting his 6%, when it all went down and very likely continued. I suspect he also realized he was in no position to stop it happening, and probably that some of his actions had enabled it.
I am not suggesting he did anything other than get out while the getting was good. What he knew and when he knew it will make quite interesting reading, when they get around to looking at his role in it all.

(11,572 posts)Depending on the extent of real and actionable evidence the DoJ has, or will find, the need for him as a witness may dwindle to the point that being able to mount a full prosecution of him is the far superior option.
I hope so, anyway.

Both Omarosa and Michael Cohen, in their books, had a difficult time explaining how they were so mesmerized by this monster for so long. But neither of them were involved in anything as huge as an insurrection.

(302 posts)I'll save you some trouble. They both knew. I said this in the wake of the insurrection; it's why Barr left. He knew it was coming. Pence knew it, too; that's why there was a lover's quarrel with the Orangutang.
They both knew.

(6,230 posts)Perhaps not the full extent of it, but then we still don't know the depth and breath of the conspiracy.
He was a rat, and Trump's ship was going down...time to jump ship.
He needs to be deposed under oath in both the Congress and in the courtroom.
Then we'll see if he's willing to risk jail to protect Trump.
My guess is he isn't willing to risk that.

And, it's the criminal court he is most worried about.

(111,383 posts)and armed insurrection, even led by his ideal of a unitary executive, was a baby step too far for him.
The only way Barr is going to be prosecuted is if a lot of very frightened people start to talk. That's not going to happen soon.
