Scotch whisky tariffs suspended in new US agreement

Last edited Fri Mar 5, 2021, 03:47 PM - Edit history (1)

Not sure if anyone already posted this, but whisky fans on Twitter are celebrating the removal of a 25% tariff on Scotch whisky. Looks like our next bottle of Glenmorangie single malt should be a little less expensive.

Scotch whisky tariffs have been suspended after a agreement was reached with the United States.

The United States will now temporarily suspend all retaliatory tariffs on direct exports from the UK after a settlement agreement over the Airbus despite.

It means Scotch whisky will now see its tariffs go from 25 per cent to 0 per cent, as will textiles such as cashmere.

-snip-

Not sure what the "Airbus despite" is but that's what the article says.

Worth every penny, but I'm happy if I can pay fewer pennies for it now...

It's made here in Calgary, and we have shelves and shelves of it. Straight rye, it's fabulous.

I have had every scotch recommended by others on this post.

But far and away - the GREATEST WHISKEY I EVER TASTED is “NOTCH”! Made on Nantucket! Yes; in Massachusetts.

Heard about the small distillery there that made it and submitted it to a blind tasting a few years ago as a newcomer - where it swept the field! I bought the 10-year old as Christmas gifts (only 2!). Terrific!

I got to try the 12-year over Christmas and was blown even further away. It should be. The 12-year is priced at $350. (A strictly special occasion whiskey to enjoy with only your closest friends.).

I just saw where they now have a 15-year at an even higher price! And I am so tempted...! (Have to start saving and go through the cushions.)

Google: “notch whiskey Nantucket” and you can check it out.
