We keep measuring "success" based on the wrong things!
I keep seeing posts celebrating some failure or another of the GOP. How they look stupid, had some failed tactic, or had some stunt blow up in their face. Sometimes, we think it's hysterically funny how bad they just failed.
Whenever I see or hear some discussion of news that sounds like this, I immediately shift my frame of thinking to that of a Trump-supporter.
And almost EVERY SINGLE TIME, I realize that we are missing the GOP's actual strategy. And it's clear to me that all of *our* celebration is not just premature, it's dangerously deluded.
Almost every thing we see that makes *us* think badly of the GOP, is a deliberate effort by the GOP to look good to a Trump-voter.
We NEED to be able to see both our own POV *and* the GOPs POV. Because we have spent the last 5 years getting it wrong OVER and OVER again.
The Trump-GOP isn't trying to advance legislation. They aren't trying solve problems. They aren't even really trying to *look like* they are problem solvers.
They are just saying anything and everything that will get attention and trigger outrage among Trump-voters. Truth is irrelevant. Helping people is irrelevant. If looking like you are helping people requires you to cancel a trip to Mexico or do anything more than throw paper towels at people, they will first try to rant about cancel culture 2-3 times. If that fails to change the subject, then they might return home from Mexico.
But we can't evaluable the GOP based on our own morals and standards. If we do that, we must expect to be blindsided by the success they will have.
We are measuring the wrong things!

absolutely agree. We do all of these things to our political peril.
And oh by the way.. This is not the period in our history we should put aside our differences in the spirit of "bi-partisanship" ,
Making deals with Traitors? Who in the right mind would agree with such a notion?
