Democrats who voted against a $15 minimum wage

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has long been on a crusade to increase the minimum wage to $15 per hour. After being blocked by the Senate parliamentarian on the question of whether the minimum wage increase could be included in the pandemic relief package working its way through the chamber, Sanders filed it on Friday as an individual item to get all senators on the record. The results were quite surprising.

Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Krysten Sinema (D-Ariz.) were already assumed to not support the $15 mark. But opposition among the Democratic Party's conservative wing was much deeper than that. Six more Democrats voted against the measure aside from them, for a total of eight: Jon Tester of Montana, Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, Angus King of Maine (an independent who caucuses with the Democrats), and finally Chris Coons and Tom Carper of Delaware.

All these senators are from purple or red states — except Carper and Coons, where Biden won by 19 percentage points. (Those two are doubly suspicious as both are close to Biden personally and Coons is well-known as his voice in the Senate.)

I happily live in New Mexico. Two Democratic Senators who are very good.

3. Shaheen also was the key player, along w/ Manchin, in removing COVID cheques for 17 million people

12 million adults, 5 million children.

I have no idea why these 6 (we know Manchin and Sinema were already against it, thus it was DOA) other Dems voted against it, as they KNEW it was a fail anyway. Bad, bad optics. They did not have to go out and do it. They only invite more trouble for us. It was never going to stay in anyway, as the Parliamentarian would simply rule it out of order and we are not going to overrule her.

5. why would any of the 6 others? It was pointless as Manchin and Sinema already had killed it off.

Also even if it had passed, it never would have stayed in, as the Parliamentarian already ruled it out of order and we are not going to overrule her.

12. House vs Senate Stimulus

I am one of those 17 million that will not receive a check.

Soon, I will under cancer treatment.

I will be out of work for 8 weeks and will need a full-time caregiver for a minimum of three of those weeks.

The stimulus as passed by the House would benefit me greatly in paying for these bills.

Not so much with the Senate version.
