Senate passes Biden's $1.9 trillion Covid relief bill

The Senate passed President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion Covid relief plan on Saturday, after an all-night “vote-a-rama” and a 12-hour struggle to get one Democrat to support the party's plan on a critical issue.

The vote was 50 to 49. The legislation is now expected to go back to the House for a final vote before Biden signs it into law.

https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/stimulus-update-us-relief-bill-03-06-21/h_d73d8185e479b3cd02834652d4caae66

Edited to add: For those wondering why it's 50-49, Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) went back to Alaska for a family funeral, and did not vote. If he had been there, VP Harris would have broken the tie in the Democrats' favor.

Out of all the senators and congressmen in the chambers, a camera just happened to be trained on Walsh when he made his crude and racist comment. Can you imagine a Democrat yelling the same thing at a speech by T*****? Even though it would be demonstrably true, such an interjection would be entirely out of place and rightfully condemned.

CNN reporter says GQP thinks this will work against Democrats in 2022 the way relief bill worked against Democrats in 2010 allowing GQP to take the House.

I kinda think 2010 was more about racism than anything else. That won't work this time.

Of fear of death and watching people die. That is a world of difference than a bad economic time.

While republicans may squawk at the money and other items in bill their people will gladly take the help given and hopefully next election enough of them will silently vote D because of it.

I am glad I belong to a party based on hope not fear. Only fear is republicans winning again.

A recalcitrant republican is popular outside his district to those whose vision is on only themselves. It could be seen as -he stands up for the people- the people of course being people just like himself. This emotion is everywhere, so what the stance was for or against doesn't matter.
We on the other hand think of the people of this country and others. At least that's my take on it.

Having to cede a couple of relatively minor items can look like caving in, and I also know that it's not "the Republican way," but it's the way that adults politic.

Digging in one's heels at "100% or nothing" will often yield you the "nothing."
