Budget reconciliation made it possible to pass this Covid bill with 50 + 1.
Future legislation, such as the badly needed H.R. 1 bill on voting reform, will be subject to a filibuster and will require 60 votes. It seems next to impossible that the obstructionist Republicans will show any level of cooperation.
Hard not to be pessimistic.

(19,956 posts)4. Not so, they have one more Reconciliation bill for 2020. The Covid
Rescue bill was the one that wasn't used last year. Now the plan had been to do this one first and then the Infrastructure Bill with the other Reconciliation shot.
I think it is imperative that they do HR1/VRA/S1 next instead.
