Skeletons of WWII-era nuns murdered by Soviets unearthed in Poland

By Mindy Weisberger - Senior Writer a day ago

Religious objects, such as crucifixes and medallions, helped experts identify the victims.

Archaeologists recently unearthed the skeletons of three Catholic nuns who were murdered by Soviet soldiers at the end of World War II. Their discovery concludes a months-long search for the bones of seven nuns who were killed during the former Soviet Union's brutal occupation of the war-torn country.

Russia's Red Army invaded Poland in 1944, as Nazi Germany withdrew their soldiers. During that time, Soviet forces sought to seize control by suppressing Polish militia and religious figures, imprisoning, deporting and killing Polish soldiers, clergy and civilians. Records from 1945 documented Soviet soldiers slaughtering seven nuns in the order of St. Catherine of Alexandria, representatives of the Polish Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) told Live Science in an email.

To find out where these murdered nuns were buried, archaeologists first excavated a site in Gdańsk in July 2020, where they found the remains of Sister Charytyna (Jadwiga Fahl), according to a statement from the IPN. An excavation in Olsztyn in October revealed what are thought to be the remains of Sister Generosa (Maria Bolz), Sister Krzysztofora (Marta Klomfass) and Sister Liberia (Maria Domnik), all of whom were nurses at Olsztyn's St. Mary's Hospital.

Stalin's actions in the Soviet Union prior to WWII led to millions dying from famine, the gulag, political purges. etc.

He also ran campaigns against Jewish people and Gypsies, but didn’t imprison and kill them on the scale that Hitler did.

Stalin was a flat out monster that should have had a docket at The Hague.

The Soviets and Stalin personally would tolerate no opposition...ever. All religious, political and military organizations were ruthlessly eradicated.

The Soviets invaded the eastern half of Poland when the Germans invaded from the West in 1939. The NKVD murdered ANYONE they considered a potential threat both then and when they returned in 1944 on their way to crush Germany.

A good example is the Polish Home Army and the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. The Soviet Army was prepared to move into the city and could have aided the groups vainly struggling to battle the Germans but they did not and so the uprising was crushed. The Soviets shortly after rolled through on their way to the Elbe.

The Nazis killed people for their ethnicity. The Soviets killed people for their thoughts.

We kill people for oil and KFC.

In areas they liberated, including Berlin. This included very little girls and very old ladies. They often killed them after the rapes.

People were trying to get the hell away from the Soviets after years of living under their brutality, so The Kremlin had to stop those people from literally walking to the other side.

Stalin was a brutal monster who allowed anything that would advance his rule happen, in fact him and his henchman Beria ran systemic efforts to implant terror into populations.

Stalin was an ally to Nazi Germany before Hitler invaded Russia, then he changed sides. Russia helped with the invasion of Poland and the defeat of once free countries near Russia that Hitler’s stormtroopers overran early in the war.
