From what I remember, it was passed through reconciliation on a party-line vote with a much much bigger price tag. The main difference is that it did not have massive support from the general public.

Joe Manchin said he actually got a few things for the other side. He is for $11 an hour with COL built in so this will never happen again.

He was fine ramming things through when he had a slight majority....and even broke precedence by stonewalling Merrick Garland from being appointed to the Supreme Court for a year while ramming through Barrett 6 weeks or something like that before the 2020 Election.

Their stone-cold attitudes toward those who are starving, who have lost family and friends to COVID, who are without healthcare or a job and those evicted from their homes is beginning to backfire.

We can only hope it backfires big-time in 2022 and 2024......

Pass as much policy as possible that helps the most people, fight voter suppression with all we got, and let the voters decide in 2022 and 2024 which direction they prefer.

The American people now have a clear choice seen back to back within a matter of weeks...Trumpism or Bidenism...pick one.

When things come to this kind of utter partisan failure to negotiate, there's no denying that our government is broken. We're holding on by having the White House, a narrowing majority in the House, and the most tenuous of margins (thanks, Manchin) in the Senate. If either one of the latter two swings to the repugs in 2022, we can kiss all this jubilation goodbye. Everything depends on voter turnout and thwarting repug efforts to suppress the vote.
