No fan of Gov Cuomo, but if he's in the frying pan for maipulating COVID numbers, what about DeSantis. Just as bad.

(16,166 posts)but I don't know how much pull she would have with the average citizen. Most of the people I mention her name to say something like;
"Who?"
We've had a good mayor in St Petersburg, Rick Kriseman, but he's kinda limited in his scope at this time. He did the good things relating to the plague and the city has been progressively getting better except for over development.Seems like only us loony enviro nuts want it to slow down until infrastructure catches up.
Charlie Christ; Hmmm, Not sure just how to accept him although he is presently a Democratic representative. One of the best things I've heard about him is, "He likes to run for office". I can't name any of the accomplishments of his governorship off hand.
the spoiler or pot stirrer could be David Jolly. He has the aura of progressiveness but did run as a republican and is now an independent.
As far as a moneyed individual that could possibly run and win narrowly if the vote was true, John Morgan. He's got the money, the name rec, and has already been hit over the head by the existing junta. He apparently also knows how to delegate and decide. You don't get to be the head of a law firm that size without a blood lust
Toss in the media, spectrum, tampabaytimes, miami herald, etc, it's hard to find an outlet that stands up to this mess.
I probably should have made this a separate post but my fingers wouldn't stop.

MIAMI (AP) Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and state health officials came under deeper scrutiny amid revelations that seniors in a wealthy enclave in Key Largo received hundreds of life-saving vaccinations as early as mid -January, giving ammunition to critics who say the Republican governor is favoring wealthy constituents over ordinary Floridians.
The revelations were the latest example of wealthy Floridians getting earlier access to coronavirus vaccines, even as the state has lagged in efforts to get poorer residents vaccinated.
DeSantis pushed back Thursday, saying a local hospital not the state was behind the vaccinations of more than 1,200 residents of the exclusive Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida, and that the state wasnt involved in it in any shape or form.
Charlie Crist asks DOJ to investigate DeSantis pop-up vaccine sites for wealthy Florida neighborhoods
Officials from Monroe County, home to Key Largo, said the affluent clubs medical center, which is an affiliate of Baptist Health Hospital, received the vaccines through the hospital as part of the governors program to vaccinate communities with a populations of people 65 and older. County spokeswoman Kristen Livengood said the allocations were coordinated through Baptist and the state of Florida.

The inequitable distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines is becoming a public relations challenge for the governor. Of the 3.2 million people who have received one or two doses of the vaccines, less than 6% have been Black, when they make up about 17% of the total population.
Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried joined Democratic U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist in calling for federal officials to probe the DeSantis administrations vaccine distribution programs. During a Thursday press conference at the Florida Capitol, Fried called on the FBIs public corruption unit to launch an investigation. If this isnt public corruption, I dont know what is, Fried said, noting what she said was a pattern.

(7,604 posts)That, of course, is a self-fulfilling prophecy. As for the Democrats, the FDP is currently a skeleton party as Manny Diaz had to lay off all but 6 employees (including himself and Marcus Dixon, his Executive Director) because he inherited a massive debt. As far as getting the message out goes, I think even a healthy state party has very little ability to guide the major media narratives. The collective impact of our large media organizations is crippling to our democracy.
