Justice gave an interview to CBS Margaret Brennan on Sunday for Face The Nation, where he defended his support for the covid relief package that just passed through the Senate. The conversation was held in the backdrop of the fact that Justice pushed for the stimulus bill while Manchin only approved of it after holding it up and asking for changes.
As Brennan brought up Republican criticisms about the relief packages spending allocation, she noted that Manchin has criticized Justice in the past by accusing him of sitting on funds or using them for projects they were not intended for.
How do you respond to that? Brennan asked.
Listen, Joe Manchin is a professional politician, Justice answered. Im not going to get into a food fight with Joe Manchin.
The governor went on by defending his management of CARES Act dollars, but he did continue slamming Manchin for his political rhetoric.
I think his statements are ridiculous, he said.
When Brennan asked if he stands by spending 100 million dollars in roads, Justice retorted that the states roads were in a terrible state, and it happened on Joe Manchins watch.

Very interesting...Manchin has been put on notice and by the Governor of his state no less.

(47,397 posts)A republican governor defending a Democratic bill more than the Democratic senator from the same state.

(6,082 posts)was a Democrat before he was a Republican. He knows which way the wind is blowing and Manchin is out there on a limb. I hope he gets primaried.

(47,397 posts)I've noticed that some governors seem more in touch with what their constituents want and need than the senators or congressional representatives from the same state. They usually bear more responsibility for what happens in their state, as they are actually right there and have to make more pragmatic decisions.

(1,048 posts)he's lost the plot. Sinema as well. In their haste to protect themselves politically and appear "moderate" they are actually making bad votes that are damaging them politically.

(47,397 posts)and it seems like Manchin is starting to realize that. Sinema is still a newbie, so it might take her awhile, but I have a feeling she is experiencing a lot of backlash. The media keeps playing her cutesy little "thumbs down" stunt over and over again. Some mistakes are hard to undo and that image could stick to her for a very long time.

His "awe shucks" persona is complete garbage. He's a viper. If he were in the Senate he'd have voted no. You notice he hasn't brought up Capito's no vote??? Odd isn't it?has he "put her on notice?"

(5,443 posts)not the disagreement over fund management. Justice is now a Republican and for all we know the next senator from WV after Manchin eventually retires, given the state's conservative makeup.
Notice how the reporter tried to stir up controversy rather than concentrate on the key political point.

Hes a (barely) walking advertisement for heart disease.
