Reuters reports: "Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has enlisted the help of Atlanta lawyer John Floyd, who wrote a national guide on prosecuting state racketeering cases. Floyd was hired recently to provide help as needed on matters involving racketeering, including the Trump investigation and other cases, said the source, who has direct knowledge of the situation."
"Floyds appointment signals that racketeering could feature prominently in the investigation."

(34,671 posts)I wouldn't be assuming any racketeering charge is involved over this.
I'm no lawyer, but it seems easier to "provide help as needed," and just indict him on a straight up election fraud charge.

(833 posts)"Racketeering is a legal term that refers to acts committed that are part of an ongoing criminal enterprise. The term is most commonly associated with the activities of organized crime organizations such as the Mafia but in recent years, its been applied to any sort of ongoing illegal practice or scheme."

Also, the lawyer Ms. Willis hired, John Floyd, made a big splash by helping to convict Atlanta principals and teachers cheated of cheating on state tests to help their students. Fani Wallis prosecuted the case and won guilty verdicts against eleven of twelve defendants. That case had nothing to do with business or financial racketeering as we commonly think of it.

(833 posts)But I don't think she'd hire a specialist in a field she's already expert in just for the fun of it.

(317 posts)Any conviction at state level means governor pardons him....

(833 posts)"An independent board appointed by the governor exercises the pardon power, reporting annually to legislature, the governor, and the attorney general. The board issues pardons both with and without restoration of firearms rights. The board may also restore civil and political rights to persons with federal and out-of-state convictions. Eligibility for pardon five years after completion of sentence (including payment of court debt), restoration of rights after two years. People with sex offenses must wait 10 years. The board conducts a paper review, decides by majority vote, and issues a written decision. Pardon relieves all legal disabilities except public office, and it is effective to remove from the sex offender registry. However, it does not expunge the record, and a pardoned conviction may be used as a predicate. Pardons are frequent and the process regular: in recent years between 400 and 600 pardons and restorations have been granted each year, about 60% with firearms restoration."
Note the phrase "...except public office."
