Disney World Booked To Capacity For Spring Break

Spring Break is coming and Walt Disney World is already booked to capacity. A new report from Walt Disney World News Today shows that the calendar is all fun through next week and things aren’t much different at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You would expect this kind of ramp up as people across the country get restless despite most areas being nowhere close to full vaccination rates. However, it has gone to enough people so far that there might not be the potential widespread issues that would have existed just a few months ago. Earlier this week, when word got out about the California theme parks like Disneyland, Disney’s California Adventure, and Universal Studios beginning reopening next month, it was easy to see the writing on the wall then. There was always going to be a rush of people clamoring to get their Disney visit in the moment that the gates were open to the public again.

If you’re an Annual Passholder, there is some good news if you act fast. Most of the parks are still available, but that won’t last long. Regarding masking guidelines, Disney has not adjusted their stance. When Disney Springs opened up last year, Disney Parks chairman Josh D’Amaro talked about the new normal on the ground with CNBC.

“We figured out a way to really push hard on technology, really accelerate some of the ideas that we’ve had for a long time,” he said. “So you think about things like reservation systems in the parks that we can manage capacity and therefore guest experience a little bit better. It’s working exceptionally well for us.”

“Things like mobile order, Roger. So you can walk up to a restaurant, have your meal ready for you when you arrive. Things like queue reservations systems that we’re executing in different ways,” Amaro added. “Or even how you might pay for merchandise but without transacting with a credit card. And this technology, it doesn’t only help us during a time of a pandemic, but I think it actually leads to a better cast and guest experience. And so, these are things that are helping us now, but I think they’re here to stay.”

1. I had a hard time with those kinds of crowds without a pandemic.

I don’t know, I think most people who are going to be there are not in the groups of people who have been vaccinated.

2. I think they're still at a 35% capacity limit.

I don't see anything about the limits in that article, though I only browsed it. My apologies if I missed it. CNN notes that they're at reduced capacity, but doesn't list a percentage.

A travel site notes that it's currently 35%.

9. It's too bad Disney couldn't pressure DeSantis into providing vaccines

And jab every person entering the park. While it wouldn't provide any immunity right away, it might help getting more people vaccinated quickly. Do that at every big gathering place, and more of the people who are resistant to vaccines might accept them.

11. Since DeSantis is authorizing vaccinations mostly for his donors

Those could be overridden. And if it encouraged the tourist business, it would make his donors happy.

That's a lot of people to corral and yet they've managed quite well.

See, GOP, it can be done.

It’s incredible how they are using the recommended protocols that the scientists recommended. I went to Disney springs two Fridays ago. You immediately are given a temperature check. You are masked. The distancing is enforced. We went to T-Rex for dinner and the tables were separated way more then six feet. We went to Gidian Bakery and only 6 people were allowed at one time all masked of course. It’s as safe as you scan get. I guarantee I do not have coronavirus from that trip.

16. Well, you would be wrong. They have followed the science from the time they opened.

35% of capacity. Masks not optional. Take it off unless actively eating you get one warning. Then out.

Spacing strictly enforced. They have been opened since early fall following the science. Not one outbreak traced to them. Same as the other parks in central Florida.

Amazing if you listen to science things can work out.

Under Florida’s regulations they could have gone full bore and opened up totally. Chose not to do so.

5. We're planning a stop at Disney Springs as

We head down to my in-laws this summer. In lieu of a big 21st and 28th b’day bash, Our first stop is the GA Aquarium where we got my son a ticket to dive with the whale sharks (he just completed diving instruction, waiting for a certification appt). Then we’re treating our daughter to a lunch (outside) and some shopping at Disney Springs. Hopefully we’ll all be vaccinated by then, although I know my SIL, MIL, and FIL plan on refusing the vaccine in FL.

I have never been to Disney World, but did get to Disneyland once, back some time in the 1970s. I enjoyed it, and the crowds weren't too terrible. I've been to several other theme parks in the past, and sometimes the crowds were really annoying. In reality, since almost everything is outdoors in the many theme parks, things like masking and enforced social distancing probably aren't that necessary.
