How Are You Beating The Boredom?

for the last year Ive been good. watching old tv shows. cleaning up stuff on the computer. reaching out to people i care about.

but mostly wanting that shit stain in the white house gone. that fueled me during the time that Hooters was closed 8-(

fast forward to now. close to a vaccine. not old enough to be one of the firsts but totally cool with that.

starting to think about a job.

politics is boring to tell the truth, and should be.

80-90% of the way through the race and finally im stumbling lol. almost there. keep going. very bored though lol.

Video games are always there. Red dead 2.

took some pictures which i hate doing. my latest.

so what are you doing to finish this last bit of the pandemic off? something new? something old?

I thought I would be home free with my second shot this week. But now I am not sure.
I am certainly going to wear a double mask and not go into big crowds.

I was very active before the vaccine in various senior centers, but no way I am going into a crowded setting any more. And I do not think traveling is a good idea.

I used to love sitting in a Starbucks and people watching. And browsing and walking through an IKEA store.
I don't know if those are safe now even with the two shots.

It has been a very long year and we may still have to sit at home for the near future.

new normal. The variants are a wrinkle that the drug companies should be able to sort out.
Just a matter of time.

I felt significantly better about life right after my first vaccine jab.

I have a number of challenging hobbies and volunteer work I can do online.

Also I love to read and watch various kinds of programs and movies.

I am able to entertain myself and prefer it actually.

But even still, the year quarantine has been hard on me.

during the pandemic. Things have been really crazy at work for her during the pandemic and she hopes things will calm down once life is more normal for most people. She regularly is physically and verbally attacked at work.
Patients who are covid positive spit on her, won't wear their masks. Thank god she got the vaccine a couple of months ago.

So yes anyone in healthcare has not been bored this year. And in fact has faced increased danger.

However, I do spend a significant portion of my day telling patients: "Mask up over the nose, or it won't do any good!".

Every once in a great while, I'll have a patient give an Oscar-worthy performance as someone who can't breathe with a mask on. I note with amusement that not being able to breathe doesn't seem to prevent them from smoking, and they break character pretty quickly.

These are kids and parents coming in with serious emergency conditions. Kids who are suicidal, homicidal, total psychotic breaks, etc. There is a great deal of liability in terms of turning away a homicidal kid at the door.

And even if a seriously acting out 10 year old wears a mask at the door, it is unlikely he will continue to wear it all day. And the parents are just as bad.

It finally got so bad that the pregnant medical staff refused to treat these kids/parents and management finally allowed them to start throwing these folks out the door as soon as the kids were in any way stable.

Yes I know, the staff hate the patients with chin diapers. That is what they call the patients who wear the mask around their neck. They tell the patients, your mask is not a damn diaper, pull it up. Of course they don't swear but that is the tone in their voice.

My wife and I aren't social and prefer to stay home and keep each other company. So other then wearing masks and liberally using hand sanitizer when out and about , one observing us over the past couple of years probably couldn't tell that there is a major pandemic.

Adopt a shelter pet. Set a goal of your choice and work toward it. Join a club or book group. Work in the yard if you’ve got one. Do a household project. Learn a language. Map out a trip for when you can take one. There’s a lot.

I’ve got built-ins. I’m in an MFA program and am writing a book. I’m also a board president of an educational non-profit. That can be quite the trip.

Doing some reading, and I’m waiting for my 2nd vaccine to get the full protection. My husband just got his 1st, so we wait. I’m going to go to our local home goods store, just to see things in a store, on a shelf.

If lucky, for Mother’s Day, we can walk around the Kentucky Horse Park. It’s a pretty place, with beautiful animals. So I wait, and will wear a mask until the science tells were cleared.

have more to go, but we made a big dent in it.

Since then, I've learned to knit and am practicing Spanish on my own and with a woman from Columbia. We continue to enjoy our two dogs, who have made this isolation tolerable.

I just got my second Moderna vaccine today so I'm prepared for the rest of the world to catch up and hopefully we will have some normalcy soon.

I'm a retired percussionist, playing in several community orchestras(which of course are on hold) So-- I practice 2-3 hours a day, study orchestra and opera scores, ride an exercise bike (I'll buy a real bike in a month or so), walk at least an hour a day, work out at home as best I can, cook a lot. Sometimes swim at the Y early in the AM when nobody is there, never more than 4-5 people in the huge pool.... i feel pretty safe.....

Stay in touch with friends and professional acquaintances and classical music happenings around the world on, yes, FB, working my way through the Beethoven and Shostakovich quartets...

I'm not bored, that's for sure... but I sure miss playing in an orchestra. Hopefully, MAYBE something can start up in the fall in some form.. if republicans in the USA will wear their masks.

I have a ton of yarn to knit and as many, if not more, books to read. I have instruments to play and music to listen to. When the weather is nice, I walk several miles a day. I miss going to restaurants and getting together with friends, and this sometimes brings me down, but I have not been bored for one minute.
