I was there in Nissan in Canton, Miss in 2017 when a majority Black workforce voted down uaw as workers feel victim to divide & conquer tactics.
Workers at Amazon, Biden & BLM learned lessons of that defeat & pushing forward.

(58,785 posts)He says UAW organization at Nissan failed because divide and conquer tactics by management succeeded in causing black workers to reject unionization as less in their interest. I wasn't reading much more than headlines at the time but did read management's campaigning on workers was intense and unprincipled.

(23,612 posts)In this case VW was not objecting to the union; unions are prevalent in Europe
Meanwhile, the right to work anti union crowd launched this campaign against the union and ultimately the workers voted it down. It was a close vote but it lost.
VW decided to cancel their planned expansion of that plant and went elsewhere.
Good to hear things may be changing

(82,849 posts)But isn't it nice to have a president who actually advocates for working people and unions? I know it's usually dismissed as "Green Lanternism," that is, a matter of political will, but a statement from the president can influence events mightily. Certainly the former guy wasn't shy about shooting his mouth off, and a lot of things ensued from his brainless tweets and pronouncements that I thought Americans were too smart to fall for. I think we should try it the other way and see what happens.
8 am glad Biden supports Unions.
