This is what makes me sick on Manchin's actions

https://www.wdtv.com/2021/03/08/gov-justice-criticizes-sen-manchin-during-covid-19-press-briefing/

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - On Monday, during his press briefing, Gov. Jim Justice was asked about the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill, which was passed by the U.S. Senate on Saturday. In his response, Gov. Justice said there’s a need for another stimulus package because the past stimulus packages have been “undersized.” The governor went on to criticize U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) who voted in support of the relief package.

Gov. Justice said in part, “Joe Manchin is supposed to be your representative, West Virginia. And you know what Joe Manchin is doing, he’s still trying to hit at me. That’s all there really is to it. When it really boils right down to it that’s all Joe Manchin is doing. He doesn’t care about you. He doesn’t care about the people in this state. Literally, Joe Manchin is selling his influence and making money. What he’s doing is hurting West Virginians.”
____________________________________________________________

Yes, I was upset at what Manchin did with cutting back who got the 1400.00 and min wage and unemployment change around because I know people ( NOT ME but cousins who are getting screwed and friends who are getting screwed.) But everyone want to say I'm full of shit.

This is what Manchin is and I see in late Breaking News he is planning to screw the infrastructure.

My friend who has been unemployed for a good part of a year and had to go thru his savings and 401 k made any average of 75,600 3 years before Covid 19 struck.

My cousin and his family do have 2 incomes -well did. She was the "bread winner" average about $124,000 before covid. The family is surviving on savings and the husbands income which range around 24,000 before covid.

I do not have permission to speak about 2 other friends situation in detail but They are in the same situation.

From personal experience PA unemployment system is a joke. I was laid off 4 months before going back to work. Thankfully husband is able to work from home. It is just the 2 of us. We did the best we could.
I filed for unemployment went down to the unemployment office they check my filing told me everything filed correctly I needed to call Harrisburg. I could never get thru to Harrisburg. Luckily I was able to go back to work working from home as well BUT I've yet to see 1 unemployment check from last year.

As he was above the $75k cutoff for the full amount, earning $75.6k. But since he lost his job last year, he will get the full amount under Biden if he did his 2020 taxes.

And same with your cousins as the "breadwinner" made $124k, way above the cutoff for the full amount based on 2019 earnings. But it appears they will get the full amount under Biden based on their income for 2020 which is $24k.

Based on what you said, it appears your friend and cousins will get more under the Biden stimulus then they did last year when Trump was president.

Your comment fro mthe OP:

Appears your real beef is with the PA unemployment system and not at all with Sen. Manchin.

People who received the full amount last year, but won't receive anything this year. People who received Trump's money, but won't receive Biden's money.

Yes, there are people who received SOME money last year who will receive less this year. But if you received $600, you'll recieve $1400, because it's based on the same formula.

drray23

25. its based on the same cutoff not same tapering formula
Mon Mar 8, 2021, 05:15 PM
Mar 2021

Your statement is correct that if you qualified for full $600.00 you will qualify for full $1400.00 but there is no formula for that, its just a cutoff threshold. What they did change is the tapering off past that threshold making it drop much faster than previously. For example, the threshold for family filling jointly is $150,000 like last time. However, last time people making up to $200,000 would get a fraction of that. Now, it drops off such that if you are above $160,000 it goes to zero. The same thing is true for a single (threshold is $75,000 like before but tapers off to zero at $80,000)

drray23

24. yes for the full amount cutoff has not changed.
Mon Mar 8, 2021, 05:11 PM

However, the tapering off past that cutoff has been drastically sharpened. So somebody who was a bit above cutoff before may indeed get nothing this time after it tapers off.

For those who file as head of household, the cap was reduced by $8k. From $120k down to $112k.

Also, dependents who are above the age of 17 and in college can now qualify as can adult dependents. They didn't under the previous stimulus packages.

my cousin's 2020 taxes were just accepted (she lives in Los Angeles) by the IRS

under the original formula and the formula passed by the House she would have gotten around 1150 usd out of the 1400, now she gets zero, as she made around 81K AGI (she had around 6K in taxable income increase versus 2019 due to some equity cash ins to pay bills)

she also just got her hours cut to only half-time (until the end of summer at least they told her) she is fuming.

the cutoff for getting nothing went from 100K down to 80K

the cutoff for the start of reductions in cheques starts at 75K (Manchin wanted it to be only 50K but caved in) but the cheques are zeroed out at only 5K more, not 25K more. (80K versus 100K)

17 million people (12 million adults, 5 million children) who got two cheques under that POS Rump get nothing under us

The OP was claiming that her cousins who got the full amount before will not get anything now under Biden's plan. The only way that could happen is if their income went from $75k or less in 2019 to $80k or over in 2020.

Those who qualified for the full amount last time will get it again if their income hasn't gone above the cutoff for the full amount which remains $75 for single filers. My wife and I combined aren't even half that.

cutoff for getting nothing was drastically lowered to the point that 17 million people who got the full amount or partial amounts under Rump now get zero. All that just to save 0.6% of the costs. That is less than what just six B-2 Spirit Stealth Bombers cost.

At least Manchin did not get his way and the full amount cap lowered to only 50K. That would have cut off tens of millions of more people.

Sorry for the confusion from my end.

She had to file her 2020 taxes now, for her own personal financial reasons.

I doubt they do it, but I am all in favour of the IRS clawing back monies from people who gamed the system by refusing to file their 2020 income tax and knowingly using their 2019 income still, IF it means they should not get a check now based off their 2020 income. To me, that is clear fraud.
