Unfortunately, they have the governorships and state legislatures to do it without being stopped...I doubt Biden and the Democrats can do anything to stop it due to the filibuster and lawsuits wont help because of this SCOTUS....so my question is what are the Democrats doing about it...we can whine about this being voter suppression (which it is), but thats not going to stop them from becoming laws.. the time is now to act, informing voters and making them aware of what they need or what they are going to need to register, informing them on their future voting method options, throw in that Republicans dont want you to vote,etc....but we cant wait 6 months before the 2022 elections and voters are surprised that they cant vote or cant use the method they used before

(718 posts)In order to keep folks like Manchin happy keep filibuster but reform it so that it can only be used in extraordinary circumstances.

(4,167 posts)1. Make senators have to stay on the floor and talk if they want to filibuster
2. To vote a senator has to be present, and if a senator isnt present then it lowers the 60 vote threshold
Those are just two ideas, there are probably more worth exploring

(58,785 posts)You're right about realities of states rights and red states, but as said some huge, historic federal voting rights and anti-corruption bills are heading for the senate for reconciliation and battle right now. What we don't address by new laws will be addressed in the inevitable court cases. Expect we would win most and lose some.
Btw, Biden already issued executive orders expanding and protecting voting rights. They wouldn't survive election of a Republican president, but they'll be federal law for now. That's not nothing.
