and suddenly a large number start trashing X and anyone who defends Y is stupid. Another group says there is no way Y did that and X is just causing trouble. And both groups get mad at skeptics who point out that we really don't have enough information to believe X or Y. Social media seems to encourage this kind of jumping to conclusions and taking sides. It it seems more like asocial media as it seems to encourage non critical thinking skills.

(27,542 posts)1. The fact is, I can think of at least THREE high-profile situations that would fit your description..
...and I suspect most people would be quick to decide 100% in favor of X or Y in each situation, depending entirely on their own political/social worldview.

I generally assume something isn't true until proven otherwise. It saves a lot of time.
