I heard on the news that Florida was allowing those with high risk conditions to get the shot. The conditions include high blood pressure, being overweight, and cigarette smoking. I don't smoke, but do chew tobacco - not sure if that counts. I'm certain that I'm about 20 lbs overweight. The thing that did it for me though was that I have high blood pressure. The good news is that the company that is administering the vaccine where I'm going is the company that runs the medical office where I see my doctor. My records were available to the person that I spoke with on the phone.
I'm 56 and am getting the vaccine today. My wife is 55 and she works in the medical industry so she got her 2nd Moderna shot about a month ago. Our house will be fully vaccinated in 28 days.
I live in an area where easily 70 percent of the people don't wear masks. Ever. Where the greatest percentage of people believe that the virus is a hoax. This is a banner day for me to say the least. I think I'm going to get a t-shirt that says something snarky about being vaccinated and pointing out the stupidity of people who refuse to wear masks... something leading to the phrase "So Suck It".

(8,514 posts)I'm getting my second shot of Pfizer on Monday. I'll be so happy when my adult kids can get theirs too. I have a daughter-in-law who says she's not getting it, but I'm hoping my son will convince her.
Shanti Shanti Shanti

(58,785 posts)and thought I'd get us something like that. I imagine they'll just get cuter, too, with a variety of ways to get nice but on point messages across. Our area's not as bad as yours but still plenty of resentful spreaders, and I'd like something a little subtler, or just smaller print, less "in your face."

(8,835 posts)Maybe not a HUGE deal, but it fills me with optimism, especially in light of the CDC recommendation that it is safe to visit other who have been vaccinated without PPE or distancing.

(8,835 posts)Some arm soreness for a couple of days and got really sleepy for about 24 hours, then it faded. All good here. Second dose on April 1.

(658 posts)The company doing the work is a community health organization. They've got their act together.
Surprisingly, there was a line of people at the doorway. Evidently, there were a number of people that showed up without an appointment. Those with an appointment were moved to the head of the line, but I believe everyone that was there got a shot today. Makes me happy to see it. In this area, I do wonder how many people over 65 still haven't gotten at least their first shot. They were asking people if they had a medical condition that would allow them to get the shot.
I was impressed with the organization. Filled out 2 forms and sat and waited until a nurse pointed at me and told me which table to go to for my shot. Very well organized.
Did I say organized enough?
