Papa John's Founder Claims He's Been Working for 20 Months to Get the N-Word Out of His Vocabulary

Papa John’s Founder Rejects Charges of Racism By Revealing He’s Been Working for 20 Months to Get the N-Word Out of His Vocabulary

By Leia IdlibyMar 8th, 2021, 1:14 pm

John Schnatter, the founder and former CEO of pizza chain Papa John’s, appeared on OAN to reject charges of racism against him, claiming he’s been working “for the last 20 months” to “get rid of this N-word” from his vocabulary.

In an interview spotted by @mount_bees, OAN host Kara McKinney asked Schnatter, who was accused of saying the N-word while speaking on a company conference call in May 2018, why he has been the target of “heinous” and “evil” attacks.

McKinney was likely referring those at Wasserman Media Group, whom Schnatter sued, along with 247 Group, for breaching a contract by recording and leaking information from the May 2018 call.

Schnatter accused Casey Wasserman, head of Wasserman Media, of merely being jealous of him, as Schnatter is a right-leaning self-made man.

There is no way it takes an adult 20 months to stop using any noun, especially a horrid racial epithet.

myself. In 1963 I was five and had just started 1st grade. I was using it in a rhyme I had just learned. My mother heard it and told me to never use that word, it was a nasty name for people. I kind of didn't get it, because it was just a bunch of letters, but figured if people didn't like it I shouldn't use it. Even at the time, kids in my neck of the woods didn't use the word much. You kind of knew what kids would use it and what kids wouldn't. Creeps and troublemakers used the word.

if it takes you 20 months to rid yourself of a word that so many people find offensive. I agree, he probably used the word regularly and without remorse. Clearly he does not regret his racist behavior and language, he regrets that he got called on it.

Regretting bad choices is not the same as regretting getting caught.

I am of a different generation than Schnatter and even in my day, I would have had my mouth washed out with soap if I ever said that word.

is that he's having this massive struggle now, when the word has been out of favor for at least 60 years. Maybe longer, but I don't know since I'm 63.

Its not like he was living in some bubble or in a cave. Clearly he was around enough people to know such a word was widely unacceptable, so I would assume he knew it was racist and he used it anyway, well at least until it hurt him financially.

And yes at his age of 59, the word has been offensive for his entire life.

us kids to use it anyway. We were military kids, the troops were integrated.

And my Dad would not hear us using any disparaging words at all about the troops.
We were all one military unit and family and that was that.

Also my Dad grew up as the son of Irish immigrants, and he was called names as a kid.

So we just knew that crossing that line was bad, and as I said, the military and schools were integrated and we never wanted to form groups, racial or rank.

The only reason it is taking so long is that he doesn't want to change.

I’m southern and while my parents never used it nor allowed it in our home when a young teen trying to fit in with my southern redneck family and friends I used it.

Once I reached adulthood and the realization of how horrid it is, I stopped using it. Took maybe the 5 minutes it took me to rethink my opinion.

Never used it since. I can’t imagine it taking more than deciding Not to say it.

Is he saying he can’t control what he says? That sounds like a medical condition.
