Piers Morgan has decided to leave Good Morning Britain after a row over remarks he made about the Duchess of Sussex’s mental health.

ITV said it had accepted the presenter’s decision to leave the breakfast show, saying in a statement: “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”

Ofcom has launched an investigation into Morgan’s comments, after receiving more than 41,000 complaints.

Morgan had made dismissive remarks on Monday’s show about Meghan’s claims during a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired in the US on Sunday night to have had issues with her mental health.

Ofcom said it had received 41,015 complaints about Morgan’s comments as of early Tuesday afternoon and had launched an investigation into whether or not he had broken the UK broadcasting code.

I had the juicy pleasure of seeing it! I was so pissed at him for his rant yesterday. He was totally unhinged! When I was watching this morning (because of mr Markle), I saw him storm off stage! Lol cracked me up. His colleague really laid into him without raising his voice. That was epic.

50. Why Piers Morgan left Good Morning Britain

Ultimately, the contrast between ITV's corporate position and the personal views of their morning star, has created a conflict that could not be resolved.

I suspect it will continue elsewhere. If only there were an opinion and personality led news network launching in the UK soon, which shared his antipathy towards "woke" culture, and was chaired by a friend of his. Or a video-on-demand service from News UK, where the boss is his old friend and colleague, and her boss - Rupert Murdoch - is a huge admirer of his.

GB News is the more likely. The question is whether GB News needs Piers Morgan more than Piers Morgan needs GB News: That is, how much would they pay? He would be an asset to this station's launch. But he may fancy a long stay on a Caribbean hilltop.

56. I think Piers had been on thin ice with Good Morning Britain for a while.

And his anti-Harry/Megan antics was the last straw. He's had a history of being shockingly rude and combative to certain guests on air to everyone from Tonya Harding to Andrew Ridgely when these people only came on the show to promote a movie, book or charitable cause they're starting. ITV kept him on for ratings but it became clear that he wasn't worth it anymore and it's pretty clear the other co-hosts on the show couldn't stand him.
