stocked up on vitals, and lots of fresh drinking water on hand. So long as there are no unexpected power outages, I've got movie streaming of various sources. Got my mandolin handy for picking tunes and if my arm isn't too sore, I got my new strings on my fiddle. so good to go.

(7,278 posts)I'd be looking for updates everyday now. I'm seeing all sorts of folks getting theirs surprisingly earlier than expected...
stay on the look out for notices on your cell phone from community resources. that's what happened for me, notification on my phone. I'm with Kaiser and they're still not ready for my age. (70) I can't for the life of me understand why.
But Safeway sponsored this one for this particular vaccination event. And I received the notice via the organization that owns the property where I live.
check out different resources. there are work-arounds.

(4,170 posts)that required hospitalization. Just utterly sick and miserable with a very high fever and body aches. However, i gave blood probably six months later and no antibodies, so who knows. Im too young at this point with no underlying health issues, but perhaps theyll lower the age. I read that SC has lowered it to 55. Maybe some other states will follow suit. At any rate, I find it gives me joy to hear that so many HAVE gotten the shot. I was so worried about my friend who is nearing 70 and not in good health. Funny, I never knew how deeply worried she was until after she told me she got the vaccine. She was over the moon. I think she gets the next one in a few weeks. Again, glad to hear you got yours and I really like hearing from everyone who has managed to receive a shot! Hoping were turning a corner finally!
msfiddlestix
(7,278 posts)It's interesting you didn't have antibodies six months later. That question generally speaking has been up in the air with no hard data to formulate conclusions.
I live in a community of folks over 62. One of my neighbors who I've known for about 40 years or so, contracted MS a few years back, and when she got her vaccinations she had mildly adverse effects after the first, and then the second put her in a tailspin and now she's on Hospice care.
It's something about the immunity system with folks suffering from MS.. It's been explained to me, but I won't rely on my memory as to the cause and effect, especially since I'm not at all clear on.
But the bottom line is if someone is already dealing with immunity issues coupled with age, it might be good to press the pause button on the vaccination. Everyone is different, but she makes the second person with MS dealing with adverse reactions in my life.
I hope things go well and get better.

(10,429 posts)My shoulder is still extremely sore. Right after I got the shot, my arm felt tingly and funny, but that went away after 3-4 min. By the time the 15 min wait was up, I felt fine. Last night, I did have a little headache, and didn't feel good. Not bad, just not good. Still there when I woke up, and I had maybe a 1-2° fever. By afternoon today, I feel fine again except for the shoulder is still sore.
Hopefully that will be all for your mom as well. The pharmacist said pretty much everyone has the soreness, and a few people feel sick for a few hours. I had tylenol handy, but haven't needed it yet.
msfiddlestix
(7,278 posts)mainly for the "one and done" prospect. And then I started hearing about less side effects.

(2,594 posts)Let us know how you feel after about 12 hours or so. My husband got the J&J vacc last Saturday. He initially felt just fine. About 12 hours after, he woke up with chills (who body shaking) and aches, and he had what can only be called a "fever dream", though he didn't actually have a fever. The next morning he was okay. A little tired and moving slow, but by afternoon he was fine.

(1,306 posts)Congrats! F-wad. I hate you.
Seriously, I am so jealous. My state just revised the groups so that I am eligible to get my vaccine starting this week. But, we are also low on vaccines until April so nobody is offering a first-shot within 100 miles of where I live.
Ugh.

(6,588 posts)Of course I'm 99% sure I just had it, in Jan-Feb. Didn't bother getting tested, just quarantined, never got bad enough I felt like I really needed medical care.
I'll be interested to see what effects I get from the shot(s). If I really did have it I would expect less reaction, to the shot.

The shot was six hours ago. So far the only effect is my arm hurts. Well see about tomorrow.

(6,582 posts)I even went for a long walk after getting home.
Today though, it's been kicking my butt!!
Woke up with a head-ache (no fever) and have been very fatigued all day.
Tylenol is handling the headache nicely.
msfiddlestix
(7,278 posts)So I took a nice nap.. then went for a short walk, it's raining so it wasn't very long. My arm is slightly feeling tender.
I've heard a lot about these headaches, so i've got a fresh bottle of Tylenol at the ready. I rarely have headaches fortunately, so it'll be interesting to see if that happens. I'm prepared to be feeling crappy, but grateful the deed is done.
How many mg did you need to take to tamp down the headache?
Talitha
(6,582 posts)Like you I rarely get headaches, which is why I wanted to zap this one ASAP. It felt like a 'flu' headache... an all over the brain ache. Not intense but nagging.
My first 2 naps were more like I passed out. I turned on TCM and slept through a movie, got something to eat and slept through another movie. That's when I decided to go to bed and get a nice proper nap, I think it was about 3 hours or so.
Feel fine now, though.
And yes, grateful the deed is done!
msfiddlestix
(7,278 posts)just in case I got to sicky to do later. I hate a sink full of dishes when I'm too sick to deal with it. So I forced myself to press on before allowing myself to take a nap. Woke up from it like everything was normal. So now it's night time and I sort of feel a little wired.
LOL. go figure..

(205,220 posts)I'm looking forward to taking away some of the fear - which has been going on for far too long. And I've been proactive in encouraging family and friends to get vaccinated, too - shared some of the vaccine site finder links from DU!

I don't think we will ever be the same again.

(12,047 posts)The pharmacist giving me the shot said some people were not showing up for their second doses, how stupid is that???
Jump through all the hoops to get first one scheduled, then blow off #2? It was same time at same place as the first, already in the system.

(7,278 posts)(knock on wood) much like the first experience, with no side effects. The arm ever so slightly tender, but barely noticeable.
If your first round went smoothly, I think you can almost expect similar experience. However, be prepared for the contrary.
I just realized I did experience a significant measure of fatigue yesterday a few hours after.
Took a nice afternoon nap, and was sort of wired until past midnight. LOL.
Wounded Bear
(58,647 posts)but at my age, that's kind of a normal thing anyway.
Oh, and I normally don't have allergic reactions to hardly anything. My first one went like yours, soreness at the injection site, but no major symptoms.
msfiddlestix
(7,278 posts)for a few days... I had my youngest for a week about a month ago, can't remember if it was before or after the first shot.
Anyway the 12 year old can deal with any kind of latent effects should any come up. She's got cooking and cleaning skills I might take advantage of.
