I want Joe to have the dogs and security. You cannot have enough redundancy with Presidential security. An armed insurrection against the US government in which five people died occurred a couple of blocks away two months ago.

(13 posts)Agreed he needs to learn some manners. He has redeeming qualities. Stephen Miller, on the other hand, needs the crap beat out of him, and chained to a tree. Let's treat Animals like Animals. Lol, ranting feels good. Goodnight

(3,148 posts)Since then, first pets have treed no diplomats (as far as we know), but an occasional nip or chomp has occurred.
Barney bit the finger of Reuters White House correspondent Jonathan Decker on camera in 2008 and once attacked a police dog, Draper said. Fortunately for Barney, the well-trained police dog didnt retaliate, and President George W. Bush smoothed over the situation by inviting the canine and human officers into the Oval Office for photos.

(11,296 posts)dogs that bite (especially dogs this size) are a serious problem, and should be a matter of serious concern. And the (thoroughly outdated) idea that this is what dogs are 'supposed to do' is complete and utter nonsense. The only acceptable scenario in today's society for a dog attacking a human being -- is in a designated security situation. In today's world there is simply no place, or excuse, for a pet to ever actually bite. Every example of such should be treated extremely seriously. (and in fact IS serious) And any animal showing any such tendencies should never be allowed in social situations. And most importantly, owners should just stop with the inane idea that this is what a pet is supposed to do. IT IS NOT!
Major needs to get some serious training. And it would be a good idea if he was confined to a more controlled setting and smaller social circle.

(7,627 posts)grabbing your hand without breaking skin may have been an attempt to play. That would depend on the context.

(6,793 posts)We got our rescue Scout when she was seven months old. She loved to play and would grab our hands and give us a puppy nip. We taught her that behavior was a no-no. I decided that until she matured a little greeting guests was not allowed. We did a DNA test on her and she is part German Shepherd (25 percent) and part White
Swiss Shepherd (12 percent), the rest American and English Staffordshire Terrier. She is now 2 1/2 years old and no longer jumps or nips

(7,016 posts)and let the pups hang there with a trainer to walk and work them. That's what they should have done with trump. That way the Bidens can still see them.

(21,432 posts)my guess would be that he is nervous in a new setting with a lot of new people.
A good trainer could "nip" (pardon the pun) this behavior and solve the problem if it is not typical of Major's temperament. Maybe Major didn't get the word that Joe will not tolerate disrespectful behavior from his staff toward anyone.

(38,310 posts)My wife adopted her off feral dog death row. My wife always picks the most difficult dogs.
This dog will never be safe around chickens but she does accept new people after a few hours of carefully supervised exposure.
Our husky on the other hand thinks all humans are wonderful. He's the worst watch dog ever. If a burglar broke into our house he'd show them the silverware.

(31,261 posts)But as things are, I hope the training isnt overdone, Major was likely doing what a good dog does, protecting his owner from an unfamiliar face, or a person who was where non family are normally not at.
