I got my first moderna shot yesterday. And I am diabetic.
I am very fatigued. Slept most of the day.
Had some body aches and felt cold today. Slight on and off headache,a little stomach pain low appitite. Dry mouth.I got a developing case of covid arm as the place the shot went into my arm is growing warmer and is red and soreish. The tiredness is significant.
The body aches while painful don't occur often it's like 1 or two times an hour.
Tomorrow it could be better or worse, either way I am glad to get my shot and looking forward to the second one.

(30,802 posts)You should feel fine in the hours directly afterward, from what everybody says, which is lucky, considering your drive home.
And to think some of the Southern states have a surplus right now because so few people are signing up for the vaccines. I'd like to say, 'not my problem', but unfortunately it is, because the more people who continue to get sick, the more variants can develop.
Anyway, safe travels to you.

(30,802 posts)I can take the next day off if I have to, so I'm not worried, but it's nice to have an idea of what is 'normal.'

(9 posts)autoimmune diseases, so this is very helpful. I hope this is the worst it gets for you - and you wake feeling fresh in the morning. (I react poorly to flu shots, so am nervous on Covid - but ready, willing and wanting)

(329 posts)I had my first shot yesterday. I am 75 and diabetic so I was really concerned about the reactions. Within a couple of hours I had a pretty sore shoulder. This morning I woke up with a very sore arm and sort of a brain fog. This evening my shoulder is much better with just a bit of soreness when I raise my arm. The brain fog is gone and I feel much more with it!

(329 posts)I had the same reaction to the first polio vaccine shot I received when was a child in the early 50s. I worried about getting the covid 19 vaccine since I had a severe reaction to a penicillin vaccine (after many shots for ear pain, colds and sinus infections) With that reaction I had severe swelling at the shot site and in my throat to the point I couldn't breathe. After these two episodes, I have always been fearful of something that could pitch my reactions over the top, ending in death. I took a chance this time and I seem to be ok.

(30,802 posts)I assume an allergic reaction would come on within a few minutes or not at all.

(12,462 posts)I got my shot. Just like my allergist would have me stay in the office after I got my allergy shot. Forgot to mention that.

(6,280 posts).... at the VA, they gave me a little round sticker that said I got my covid-19 vaccination with a green check mark in the middle. I've got it stuck on the bill of my hat which I wear everywhere. When I get my second shot on the 13th, I will get a second sticker and put it right below the first one. I look at it like an advertisement and encouragement to get vaccinated. other than a slightly sore arm, no other side effects for me.

(8,196 posts)I was actually hoping I'd get some side effects so that I'd know my immune system was working. I have something stressful going on and I had insomnia most of the night so I am a little concerned that my immune system is dampened.

Biggest side effect for me 1 week after the second shot is fatigue. It will go away in a week or so.

(13,479 posts)i also got moderna. Just one shot thus far. Next morning I felt some Arm pain. Exhausted day after. Mild headaches. I was able not to take tylenol or advil, as they told me it's better not to take it unless feel a lot of pain. I slept a lot and got to relax and was totally fine the day after that! It wasn't too bad. I work from home and was able to set my schedule so I could relax most of the day. I did watch some reality tv and had lunch pre-prepared in case I wasn't feeling great!
I can't wait for dose two!

(509 posts)But after a good sleep overnight, I woke up feeling totally fine. I also had a sore arm, but I think most everyone has that. My fever was around 99.2, so not too bad, but enough to feel it.

(7,210 posts)I also got the Moderna.
I also experienced sore arm and tiredness.
But also noted mu blood sugar was running consistently 10-15 points higher than usual.
When my arm soreness went away, my blood sugar levels returned to normal.
I would assume that is was a body stress reaponse.

(12,462 posts)Usually my bsl is in the 90's-100 range. When I got the Moderna it went up to 115-120. My diet was the same as usual. Today my bsl is back in the range it usually is. I was surprised my sugar went up. Thankfully it wasn't up alot and it only went up for 2-1/2 days. Glad my sugar is back where it needs to be.

(7,210 posts)I hadn't heard it before. I did contact the CDC so maybe they'll get the word out to other diabetics.

(2,832 posts)I had no side effects other than a sore arm for a couple days.
After my second shot, same sore arm but also had slight nausea the next day.
I do feel extremely lucky. Texas has the lowest rate of vaccination but I'm in one of 5 underserved counties that got a special allocation of Moderna back in January and my wife was able to get us signed up for one each of the 100 doses allocated to the county. Administered by the Texas National Guard, we were automatically signed up for the second shot.
That will be two weeks ago as of tomorrow!
