Goddamit I went to 4 different Popeyes and all of them confirmed they no longer offer Cajun Rice so goddamn disappointed.

(72 posts)rice and beans is their best side dish. might even be their best dish PERIOD.

(55,007 posts)I'm thinking the beans need slow cooking with a ham bone AND a couple andouille sausages to get the creaminess and flavor, but the rice has subtle flavor too and I fear I will never get it right. and why the hell can't they sell it in gallon containers? or at least make the large be a quart??????

(415 posts)But, I think you need to take it down a notch and chill, cause I'm afraid there could be sumpin' bigger than Cajun Rice coming.

(31,997 posts)maybe they lost a distributer or maybe a different owner doesn't want extra items? Maybe they are losing money and simplifying their menue

(54,770 posts)took their regular, non-piled-up-with-crud Beef Burritos off the menu. I wrote the President of the company several times complaining. Im sure he didnt read them and my letters were just a few of thousands, but they put them back on the menu.
Sympthsical
(9,072 posts)Just beef, rice, and some kind of sauce. They're super filling.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)don't like most sauces, even mayonnaise.
Sympthsical
(9,072 posts)When I get one now, I just ask for no sauce. One with no sauce feels like what you're seeking.
brush
(53,764 posts)no beans, with red sauce, onions and cheese, which is how I order them.
Very good, none of the cream and whatever else they offer on the menu.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)they'd look around on the register keypad and had to call an older worker to figure it out. Plus, I couldn't order from the drive-thru because I needed to "look em in the eye" to make sure they understood. I even used to drive miles out of my way to go to one that had employees who understood.
Missing a few burritos has probably been good for my health.

(42,753 posts)I would get some every time I went there. I didn't go there so much after they were discontinued.

(2,883 posts)I'm getting my first Moderna covid shot tomorrow afternoon and as chance would have it there is a Popeye's almost across the street from the clinic....hmmm....
I will go to Popeyes and order two orders of red beans and rice and that's it. I call it dinner.

(5,722 posts)Seafood's been reduced to the Cajun Flounder Sandwich and assorted shrimp dishes. The regular fried fish has been eliminated.
Cajun rice is indeed gone, but the weird thing is that red beans and rice is still there, as well as Cajun fries.
SeattleVet
(5,477 posts)When we went there, we'd usually get the "Family" meal of 16 pieces of spicy, 8 biscuits, and 3 sides. This would be good for 3 or 4 meals for the two of us. Our sides usually were ordered like this:
We'll have a Cajun Rice.
And add another Cajun Rice.
And the collard greens (sadly, these were discontinued after a fairly short run!)
Sometimes we'd even add yet another large Cajun rice to the order.
(After the first Popeye's in our area opened we stopped by on our way from a meeting near the restaurant to a surprise birthday party for a friend who had lived in Florida, and got a box of chicken. It was sitting on the counter when he arrived, and as soon as he walked in and got the shouted "surprise!" he spotted it, and headed over saying,"Popeye's! Where in the world did you get Popeye's???", ignoring all his guests until he grabbed a piece out if the box and got a good bite. He didn't interact with anyone until we told him about the new Popeye's...then all was right with the world!)

(55,007 posts)along with small rocks and other hard objects that a bird finds, this "part" takes the place of a mouth full of teeth. lots of people like them fried or simmered and chopped in gravy.

(7,781 posts)Just fry them up lightly, they have a unique sort of crunchy meaty feel. You can find deep-fried ones at some truck stops.
Chicken hearts and livers are also da bomb.

I believe that the outrage over Cajun Rice is just the thing they're looking for to unite the country behind a cause we can all believe in.

(6,513 posts)I still miss Noodles Romanoff, a cheap box of stuff that I loved. Been gone for years, but in a corner of my brain a box of Romanoff is still sitting.
The thing that is upsetting me greatly is the downsizing of basically all food portions. Dog food cans, chocolate...the burritos at Del Taco downsized years ago. They used to be a meal that would fill you up. No more.
I hardly ever eat fast food anymore, but when I do, it turns into a binge.

(41,959 posts)There are exactly two Popeyes in the Seattle area. Fortunately we live ten miles from one of them. Its fortunate because we can get to them but theyre far enough away I dont casually drive by and succumb.
Dammit, I love that rice!
