(33,643 posts)What the f*** difference does it make what date the stupid POSTMARK is?
In AZ, your mail ballot has to get there by election day. That's the cutoff, very simple system.
Honestly though this may blow up in their faces and actually cause less ballots to end up being thrown out. You won't get people thinking they'll push their luck and send it on Friday or Saturday hoping it makes it on time (which some may not). Now everyone will know ... THURSDAY ... and will make sure it's in by that hard date.
Course if Dejoy is still in charge they'll hold up up the mail for a few days, starting from Thursday, thinking it's more likely that Democrats will wait until the last minute.
And of course reject any that aren't there by Tuesday, regardless of postmark.

I hope it backfires big time, if it becomes law.

(26,044 posts)...it's also proof that Republicans are living out the old saying about how "the generals are always planning to fight the last war."
The fact is, 2020 was an election year unlike any other, when it was safe to assume that far, far more Democrats than Republicans would be voting absentee; therefore, it made sense from their side to do all they could to restrict absentee voting. But, come late 2022 and beyond, it's very dubious that we're going to be seeing the same situation. The vast majority of the voting will be done in-person and, if anything, the absentee vote is going to be more likely to be older voters who would be part of a prime Republican demographic. This sort of restriction would make sense for Republicans to have pushed in 2020; in future elections, it's more likely to hurt them than it will us.

(5,456 posts)Why not make it next Monday? Or the last Friday of May 2021? As in any ballot not postmarked THIS YEAR will be thrown out for the 2024 election....
Complete stupidity.
So much for "Supporting the troops"....

(5,801 posts)is gaining control of more statehouses, to stop these fascists in AZ and elsewhere the GQPee runs states.
Unfortunately, I'm sure in large swaths of the nation the influence of RW hate talk radio and faux have made that more difficult. But, at least encourage Dems to turn out in large numbers for their state and local races.
