And the replies reminding Tiedrich of all the agents who caught COVID because of what Trump did, and didn't do, are important, too.

(53,214 posts)A smell, a sense that the person is a danger, or stress combined with surprise. Hey, if some dogs can smell diseases, I suppose being able to smell a Trump-lover isn't so far-fetched.

Of course, I'm not looking for reasons to denigrate the Pres either.

(53,214 posts)This all has to be a drastic change from the life they are used to. Dogs need the security of a routine. I've seen dogs in my own life who get very stressed when there is too much change and too many new people in their world. Life in the Delaware home during a pandemic was probably very comfortably predictable.

(1,350 posts)My daughters dog who loves everyone and is normally is all licks. Recently nipped at the air at two co workers one who recently had. Ovid the other was new so I known.
I wonder about Covid on that also.

Asks if Major should be euthanized!!!
I vote we euthanize the insurrectionist. Especially the ones in congress. Its kind of in the Constitution for treason.
Major sensed some Trump scent.
GopherGal
(2,905 posts)Maybe you could clarify that the "he" that the idiot reporter is suggesting euthanizing is Major, not President Biden.
That brief misinterpretation completely changed the level of outrage at said idiot reporter. My mistake, I know.
Though still, if those bonehead "reporters" are so in love with the "reality TV presidency" thing they had going on with TFG that they have to threaten poor Major's life to produce drama, maybe they should be writing about "The Bachelor" not the White House.

(7,016 posts)But then thats what being in a right wing cult does to you among other pernicious things. But its a sign President Biden has, so far, been a hell of a good President and highlights how truly wretched their cult graven idol was at the same job. It shows they aint got nothin but faux, unhinged outrage. Nothin!

(151,269 posts)He is the mildest possible dog. However, it is very unwise to hold a piece of chicken breast for him to take from your hand. He will nip your fingers every time. He likes chicken too well, and forgets his manners. Other foods are OK, and he nibbles them gently from your hand. But a piece of rotisserie chicken? Better toss it to him or you're going to say, "OUCH!" every time.
A nip that doesn't draw blood is not a serious thing. It's not worth even mentioning. Instead, you offer a little yelp and say, "NO!" to the dog, who soon learns that nipping is not a good thing.
Like everything else connected with Joe Biden, this has been overblown in the extreme by the media.

(7,794 posts)There is no rule he she won't happily break. Oh, she knows how to do all the "good dog" stuff. She's just too preoccupied to actually do any of it.
One secret service agent can feed her for about 2 months. Then she has to harvest a new one.

(2,234 posts)Several years ago, I was taking guitar lessons from a friend whose wife had THREE Min-Pins. Adorable little barky, nippy dogs. Truly adorable, no sarcasm, but barky and nippy. I remember kneeling down to get my guitar out of the case one day, and one of those darlings zipped up beside me and nipped the tip of the little finger of my fretting hand. Painful, but no skin broken. I laughed and said, Hey, I need that fingertip! My friend was understandably horrified and suggested we move lessons to my house. We did. And every Monday afternoon for two years I had a guitar lesson while my border collie laid across our feet, snoring softly.

(151,269 posts)Every so often, it gets loose and comes up and menaces our two dogs while we're on a walk. It stays just out of reach of our dogs, but sounds properly vicious. Our Beagle and Beagle/Basset mix just look at her and ignore her yappy behavior.
She likes people, though, and will come over to us for a pat. But, other dogs get her full, if useless, fury.

(11,704 posts)and Major isn't quite adjusted yet.
But I agree about the agent. I'd like for someone to find out if he's a tRumper. The dog may have been reacting to the agent's dislike of Biden.
Anyway, a few years ago I was on a trip and got stopped. While the cop was standing by my door, my dog suddenly jumped up in the passenger seat and started barking and growling. I hadn't noticed, but "backup" had apparently pulled up behind his car, and that cop had walked up on the right side of my car. She will always bark at someone who comes up on us unnoticed, but this was a lot more growling than I'd heard her do before
When he was done giving me the ticket, and that other cop had left, I told him my dog doesn't react like that, and certainly not without a reason and he should probably watch his back around that other cop.

(3,192 posts)Perfect! And while in this case, your dog probably barked a warning because of an unexpected visitor (the second cop), dogs do sometimes have an uncanny sense of potential villainy in a person.

(26,257 posts)for even suggesting a stupid and ignorant suggestion, and makes me wonder about the quality of this person who suggested this action so rapidly (will dog be put down?). What a moron and how inhuman. It reflects a nasty human character on that reporter who should be thrown out on their face and stripped of their press pass. There are lots of dog lovers on both sides of the aisle (both independents, republicans and democrats) who I imagine would be terribly upset if even such a thing is considered.
Of my 3 terriers and / or sheep dogs, one of them (all puppies really still) is very territorial and defends her yard! We tell our friends and neighbors (jokingly but serious really) that don't reach your hand into our fenced in yard when she is out there, she'll nip you! And she does. Nip! Not anything close to drawing blood but a warning nip, don't come into my yard!

(13,003 posts)The suspect, is not resisting, just lying on the ground. The canine cop orders the dog to bite the person, the dog doesn't want to bite the person because the person is doing nothing and the dog is trained not to bite because of that.
The cop is screaming orders for the dog to bite the person, and forces the dogs face into the person, the dog finally bites and holds on to the person's thigh and the cop shakes the dog's head from side to side. And he keeps ordering the dog to keep biting, while the suspect is lying face down and not moving............
Check out this video, it will make you angry and nauseated at the same time.
This should be showing non stop across the nation on every media. It is horrific to watch.............

(34,189 posts)The agents tend to reach out to their protectees and put their hands on them to guide them. A very faithful dog like Major would not like their owner being handled this way.
Way back, when gas station attendants still pumped gas, I had my dog in the back seat when I went to fill up my car. The dog who had never exhibited any aggression, almost went out the back seat window when the attendant tried to open the gas cap. The dog was just trying to protect me and our shared territory. Once I introduced the dog to the attendant, the dog was perfectly fine and happy to be petted by the attendant while he filled the tank with his other hand.
