Trump's latest explosion of rage against the GOP bodes badly for our future

Trump's explosion of rage at the GOP is more significant than you might think. He's telling Republicans that they must chart a post-Trump future entirely on his terms, or lose his voters. That bodes badly if you hope for a deradicalized GOP anytime soon:

Opinion | Trump’s latest explosion of rage against the GOP bodes badly for our future
The biggest obstacle to the development of a post-Trump GOP is Trump himself.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/03/10/trump-against-republicans-rinos/

In recent days, a few die-hard Republicans have struggled to concoct a way for the GOP to purge itself of Trumpism’s worst excesses while retaining its political benefits. They’ve said the GOP should keep former president Donald Trump’s “policies” while acknowledging that those excesses — like the small matter of inciting violent insurrection — did go too far.

This project is running into a big obstacle: Trump himself. The former president is leaving zero doubt that if Republicans want to retain the political benefits of his movement, it must only be on his own terms. That’s terrible for all of us.

This is the real significance of the news that Trump is lashing out at Republicans and urging his donor base to send money exclusively to his organization. And this story should matter to those who hope to see the GOP pull back from its radicalization against democracy, or who believe in a new post-Trumpist “conservative populism.”

“If you donate to our Save America PAC,” Trump raged on Tuesday night, “you are helping the America First movement and doing it right.” Though Trump claimed he supports GOP organizations, he has barred them from using his image without permission.

“I do not support RINOs and fools,” Trump seethed.

As the GQP becomes smaller and crazier, America pulls away, and becomes bigger and saner.

because Democratic voters will stand in line for hours to vote.

Republicans will fight amongst themselves as their voters peel off when they realize that Democrats are fighting for them as well.

Six weeks now?

As time passes, he will be forgotten. He has no online voice. He has no real interest in running again(and the GOP knows it). This whole notion that every GOP candidate has to be "approved" by Trump is laughable and, again, as time continues to march on, he will be forgotten. Now that he is trying to tell people to send him money personally - and not to the GOP - it will end faster than it would have otherwise.

America’s Next Authoritarian Will Be Much More Competent
Trump was ineffective and easily beaten. A future strongman won’t be.

Make no mistake: The attempt to harness Trumpism—without Trump, but with calculated, refined, and smarter political talent—is coming. And it won’t be easy to make the next Trumpist a one-term president.

At the moment, the Democratic Party risks celebrating Trump’s loss and moving on—an acute danger, especially because many of its constituencies, the ones that drove Trump’s loss, are understandably tired. A political nap for a few years probably looks appealing to many who opposed Trump, but the real message of this election is not that Trump lost and Democrats triumphed. It’s that a weak and untalented politician lost, while the rest of his party has completely entrenched its power over every other branch of government: the perfect setup for a talented right-wing populist to sweep into office in 2024. And make no mistake: They’re all thinking about it.

We are going to have to GOTV our butts off in 2022 & 2024. They will be fired up on hate & grievance & ready to vote.

at 5 months old, it's aged well despite the unexpected turn in GA senate races.

Americans have a real problem with mainstreaming the radical right wing. we're going to get messed up real bad by the next competent ethnopopulist.

use rump's likeness in raising funds (last I heard)...only one bystander greeted rump when he returned to NYC the other day. I'm slowly watching the number of rump-related articles tickle down to next to nothing, maybe, just maybe it'll tickle down to zero or one or two articles a day, a week, continuing to zero articles as it should. I suspect that the national GOP party is realizing that rump is stealing the money he is supposedly raising for lining his own pockets...that's why he's throwing up a fit.

That picture of Graham... His facial expression is exactly like Trump's in that picture with Putin in Helsinki--"I've just been taken to the woodshed and there's not a goddamned thing I can do about it."

Seems a likely explanation for how Graham became such a sycophant. Trump's got something on him.
