Piers Moron aka Piers Morgan
Yes, its personal
by Greg Palast
Based on original investigative series for Vice, March 9, 2021
Recidivist criminal, conman, creep, liar Im sure youve guessed Im talking about Piers Morgan, the alias of Piers Moron, whos been given a few days off for spewing vicious, inhuman comments about Meghan Markles suicidal depression.Piers Morgan and Donald Trump
I say, a few days off because British and US media moguls love affair with Morgan has kept this racist piglet on prime time for decades, putting their wallets where there ethics should be.
Piers undoubtedly thought that, by attacking a woman of color, he was protected by the latent racism in some Little Englanders reaction to a royal marrying someone of the wrong skin tone.
Does this sound personal? Oh, believe me, it is. Lets go back to July 1998 when Moron was editor of a tits-and-tattle rag called, The Mirror, and ran an entire front page consisting of a photo of a reporter under the headline, bigger than Hitler Defeated, screaming, THE LIAR.
That was the first of several front page attacks on me as an investigative reporter for The Guardian and its Sunday paper, The Observer. Id gone undercover and secretly recorded lobbyists who detailed new Prime Minister Tony Blairs inner circles tawdry little dealings selling influence and government secrets to Rupert Murdoch, Goldman Sachs, Enron and other corporate pirates.

Here are just a few highlights of Morgans one-man crime-wave. And when I say crime, I do mean acts that would, under US law, have put this creep-o away for many years. Heres a few from my 2013 Vice series on Morgan:
Illegal wiretapping: Morgan paid a trickster, faking Paul McCartneys voice, to hack into the phone of Sir Paul McCartneys wife and stole some highly personal, and highly valuable, information the type of gossip used to sell Morgans grotty little scandal sheet, The Daily Mirror. The idea of Piers listening in on private phone messages, is too creepy to think about. But he did it. Often. Electronic burglary for profit is a felony crime in the UK and USA both. While executives from News of the World were arrested for knowing about taps on celebrities, Piers was not.
Insider trading: Two of Morgans influential financial columnists would make recommendations to the rubes reading The Mirror. Morgan and his so-called reporters bought the stocks just before they would print the names of their picks which would, after publication, immediately shoot skyward. Morgan pocketed tens of thousands of pounds. His co-conspirators, the reporters, got jail time. Not Piers. He admitted to the profiteering and walked away with a laughable fine.

After all, we gave Rush our Presidential Medal of Freedom to honor his hate speech.

Heres some history on mass media:
The Powell Memo (also known as the Powell Manifesto)
The Powell Memo was first published August 23, 1971
Introduction
In 1971, Lewis Powell, then a corporate lawyer and member of the boards of 11 corporations, wrote a memo to his friend Eugene Sydnor, Jr., the Director of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The memorandum was dated August 23, 1971, two months prior to Powells nomination by President Nixon to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Powell Memo did not become available to the public until long after his confirmation to the Court. It was leaked to Jack Anderson, a liberal syndicated columnist, who stirred interest in the document when he cited it as reason to doubt Powells legal objectivity. Anderson cautioned that Powell might use his position on the Supreme Court to put his ideas into practice in behalf of business interests.
Though Powells memo was not the sole influence, the Chamber and corporate activists took his advice to heart and began building a powerful array of institutions designed to shift public attitudes and beliefs over the course of years and decades. The memo influenced or inspired the creation of the Heritage Foundation, the Manhattan Institute, the Cato Institute, Citizens for a Sound Economy, Accuracy in Academe, and other powerful organizations. Their long-term focus began paying off handsomely in the 1980s, in coordination with the Reagan Administrations hands-off business philosophy.
Most notable about these institutions was their focus on education, shifting values, and movement-building a focus we share, though often with sharply contrasting goals.* (See our endnote for more on this.)
So did Powells political views influence his judicial decisions? The evidence is mixed. Powell did embrace expansion of corporate privilege and wrote the majority opinion in First National Bank of Boston v. Bellotti, a 1978 decision that effectively invented a First Amendment right for corporations to influence ballot questions. On social issues, he was a moderate, whose votes often surprised his backers.

For those interested in the propaganda side, the guy Herman and Chomsky learned from:
Alex Carey said that the people of the US have been subjected to an unparalleled, expensive, 3/4 century long propaganda effort designed to expand corporate rights by undermining democracy and destroying the unions. Careys unique view of US history goes back to World War I and ends with the Reagan era.
Time of Useful Consciousness explains monetized mass propaganda and its impact - now more than a century in action...

ABC and the rise of Rush Limbaugh
The following brief history of ABC offers a perfect snapshot of everything that has gone wrong with the media. This remarkable story includes ABC's takeover by a conservative parent corporation, the demise of the Fairness Doctrine, the rightward shift of the evening news, the rise of conservative talk radio, and the cozy relationship between a state and a press that are supposed to be separate.
EXCERPT...
The Fairness Doctrine was repealed in 1987 by the FCC. Reagan had staffed the FCC with prominent media businessmen who were intent on slashing government regulations the equivalent of letting the fox guard the chicken coop. Among the many other regulations slashed during the Reagan years were anti-trust laws that prevented the media from becoming a monopoly. Much of this was done under heavy pressure by corporate lobbyists.
In this atmosphere of deregulation, Capital Cities found the perfect time to take over ABC. Not only were all the legal restrictions removed, but by now Casey was head of the CIA, and whatever contacts existed between the CIA and Casey's company (in which Casey held substantial stock) were immeasurably strengthened. Capital Cities soon began buying out ABC stock. The facts of the acquisition remain curious and unconventional. Capital Cities was only one-fourth the size of ABC, and there were much wealthier corporate giants who were salivating over a plum like a television network. But word got out on Wall Street that the Capital Cities takeover bid was "protected" by Warren Buffet, a legendary trader often described as the "Darling of Wall Street." (Until 1995, Buffet was the richest man in America.) With Buffet's help, Capital Cities took over ABC. According to one source, a high-ranking CIA official teased Casey, saying, "I understand Sam Donaldson is working for you now."
Sam Donaldson would not be tormenting Republican presidents for long. By the Bush Presidency, Donaldson was removed from covering the White House and paired with Diane Sawyer in a weekly news magazine that covered political fluff. Brit Hume, a staunch conservative, would take his place, and the same torment that ABC once reserved for Ronald Reagan would now be directed towards Bill Clinton.
The new conservatism at ABC was subtle but apparent. Peter Jennings, noting that the program's "American Agenda" had a liberal slant, stated that the news would pay more attention to conservatives, since their ideas are "more provocative and less predictable on some issues."
During the 1991 Persian Gulf War, Washington Post TV critic Tom Shales noted that of all the networks, ABC was the "friendliest to and least critical of the Bush Administration and its policies." After the war, ABC marketed a video of General Schwartzkopf's famous briefing of the war, entitled "Schwartzkopf: How the War was Won." It sold 80,000 copies. Later, it would market a video on life and times of Richard Nixon.

Piers Morgan And My Pee Pee
by Greg Palastfor Vice Magazine

Now, if this were a movie, you would hear the audience scream, DONT TAKE THE KEY! DONT GO UP THOSE STAIRS!
The reporter part of my brain was screaming, too: THIS SMELLS BAD. But I couldnt hear a thing because, while I was out for the story, the memory of Ms Jamaicas hand in my pocket had drained the blood from my cerebellum. I went up those stairs. Unlocked the door.
BUT FOR GODS SAKE, DONT TAKE OFF YOUR PANTS!
I took off my pants.
When the door opened and Ms Jamaicas husband walked in (this scamp has a husband?!), I thought, No problem.
But there was a problem: the photographer and reporter from The Mirror.
Touche, Piers.
The Mirrors page one splash, in letters bigger than they used for Hitler defeated: SEX SCANDAL ROCKS LABOUR CONFERENCE.

At this point in the story, someone may hold up a hand and say, Too much information! Not when it comes to Palast, he tells the whole story. For a reporter, hes the real deal.
