Of course she's not guilty but she will never get her time or money back defending herself from this fascistic prosecution attempt for doing journalism

OP
You mean there's a least one more Amendment in the Bill of Rights besides the Second?

the effort of even showing up.

Thank goodness for the not guilty verdict.

(9,170 posts)5. I doubt her defense cost her money; time and stress, certainly.
Im pretty sure the Register paid the legal fees. Nick Klinefeldt was US Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa under Obama, and is now a member of one of the bigger (and better) firms in Des Moines.

That could help her in many ways.

I don't know who this is.
I don't know what a DM Register is.
I don't know what she was prosecuted for.
Glad she was cleared, though.

A Des Moines Register reporter has been found not guilty by an Iowa jury of failing to disperse and interfering with official acts. She was arrested by police last summer as she was covering a Black Lives Matter protest last summer.
Andrea Sahouri's case has drawn international concerns over its implications for press freedom amid what First Amendment advocates have said is a sharp increase in recent arrests of journalists in the U.S.
Sahouri, 25, was arrested on May 31 during a protest that took place days after George Floyd's killing in Minneapolis. She said that a police officer, identified as Luke Wilson, deliberately pepper-sprayed her and zip-tied her wrists even after she identified herself as a journalist.

that provides context.

(42,282 posts)15. Sometimes DU works best as a team effort
When you're really following a story, you tend to assume others know it as well. I'm always glad to add context when it seems needed--I remember the case, but couldn't fit it to the name at first, either.
