This is going to sound like Monday morning quarterbacking, but during the primaries, I was convinced that if we got Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on the ticket, in either configuration, we would be unbeatable.

But as I learned talking to people in a red area he was the only candidate that they were comfortable with. The word I heard most was calming.

Joe didn't. Very important now since Trump refused to have a transition.

TBQH, I don't know if any of our other candidates could have competed in the midwest enough to win the EC.

We prided ourselves on our "deep bench," but having a deep bench of intelligent people doesn't not translate out to a deep bench of winners. As we have seen so often in the past, it's not enough to run a candidate who would be a great president if we can't elect them.

Both Jimmy Carter and Fritz Mondale would have made far better presidents than Reagan. I suspect Mike Dukakis would have done better than Bush, Senior as well. It didn't help much in 1980, 1984 or 1988, did it?

My prediction was Biden since December of 2019.

When my first choice, Jay Inslee, dropped out, the only thing I really hoped for was that none of the Senators who jumped on the bandwagon to "get" Al Franken would come close to getting the nomination. Not only did I predict that, but with several of them in the race, it looked possible, and increasingly probable, to me that even polling in single digits initially, Biden would eventually outpoll them all, and emerge as the obvious choice with the least baggage. The more the Republicans dug for dirt, the more frustrated the became when none was to be found.

I didn't know at the time if any baggage would turn up, but it was obvious the Republicans were terrified him. That became blatantly obvious when Tara Reade "came forward," with a story full of more holes than a kilo of Swiss cheese, financed by guess who. She was just as quickly "de-financed" when the scam fell flat. Sorry, Roger Stone, no shame on me, and you didn't fool me twice. Joe Biden was our Bre'r Rabbit, and you tossed him right into the briar patch. Joe Biden wasn't "sleepy" at all. Like the image of the wise old Tribal chief, he sat patiently, with his eyes half open, quietly taking everything in, and making his plans, ALL of which had both substance and success.
