update on "who buys a lamborghini for a 17 year old?"

Brendan Khuri, 17, is the Lamborghini driver who was behind the wheel in crash that killed secretary Monique Munoz, 32, last month, DailyMail.com can reveal

Khuri crashed into Munoz after losing control while allegedly street racing in Los Angeles , according to police

He has been arrested for vehicular manslaughter and Los Angeles Police Department has recommended negligent vehicular manslaughter charges

Close family friend Candace Greene told DailyMail.com: 'The kid is beyond remorseful, he cries every day'
She said Khuri is still in the hospital after suffering brain damage

Khuri was gifted the Lamborghini for his 17th birthday in June by his father James Khuri, 46, despite opposition from the boy's mother Christine, 53

James and Christine divorced in 2008 and Khuri's stepfather said gifting the teen a luxury sports car was an 'accident waiting to happen,' according to Greene

----

Brendan Khuri, 17, was behind the wheel of a Lamborghini SUV that was allegedly street racing with an Audi when it plowed into Monique Munoz's car last month, police said. He's pictured with his multimillionaire father James Khuri and two Lamborghinis

https://patch.com/florida/dunedin/michael-graziano-dies-of-injuries-received-in-april-3-accident

In 2007, Michael's brother John Graziano, a decorated Marine, was critically injured in a crash on Clearwater's Gulf-to-Bay Blvd. while a passenger in a car driving by Nick Bollea, son of famed professional wrestler Hulk Hogan (Terry Bollea), lost control on the rain-slicked street and hit a palm tree.

John Graziano suffered a severe brain injury in the accident and was hospitalized for two years and is being taken care of currently by his mother Debra Graziano.

I mean I can hear the judge now "you have such a bright future ahead of you, your crying has been enough punishment, have a nice day."

Or is that only in rape cases?

I hope they throw all the books at him.

received a new car for his 16th birthday. A Camaro, I think. He proceeded to get TWO speeding tickets on the first day - from the same cop.

Next day, his Dad sold the car.

When about turning 16 I was looking for a car and had saved over $2500 throwing papers for 4 years. This was in 82 so cars were cheaper.

I announced at supper I had found a nice 69 Chevelle SS with a large block V8 I was going to buy. Dad announced I was not going to buy that car I had never been so angry. Ended up with a 78 Ford Grenada!

He saved my life.

My sister saved up enough money for wheels - but only enough for a motorcycle.

My Dad told her he would chip in a few bucks too, and she bought a VW Bug (back when they only cost $2,000).

as many an over paid young professional althlete could attest to. Those cars are meant for racing. I doubt if the kid would have been street racing in a VW bug, for example.

Heck, my first two cars were VW bugs!

It's the unfortunate tendency of young males to drive very fast. And it must be a lot worse when driving a car intended to go very fast.

They lack the safety equipment required throughout organized racing. "Exotics" are triumphs of style, Visual Horsepower over the moon, wretched excess in carbon fibre and titanium, pearl pain and glove leather.

wrecked exotics.com shows what happens when rich men breathe their own fumes.

The bigger problem with any of them made in the last 15-20 years, is that they are deceptively EASY to control... right up until you really mash the throttle, or have to brake hard, or over-speed a cornor.

At that point, most of the people driving them in the street have no idea of the actual engine power, and limits of traction and braking applicable to their vehicle (like the vast majority of people driving more typical automobiles), and they've never taken the time or effort to learn those limits in a safe place/time/manner. Nor do they know to keep such applications to safe places and times, i.e. NOT ON PUBLIC ROADS.

Kid dropped out after first semester, came home, parents were on a winter cruise, raced around town in the snow and ice, went off the road and hit a utility pole guy wire, broke his neck and was paralyzed, quadriplegic. His college medical insurance was no longer in effect because he had left college. He spent the rest of his life in a nursing home.

It bankrupted the family and the father committed suicide a couple of years later.

they remember how it was growing up and having an ugly old car (or no car), and people at school laughing about it. Especially for a young guy - popularity and the ability to get a date is highly tied to having a nice ride. So it's an attempt by the parents (usually the dad) to 'correct' their own childhood and live vicariously through the kid.

Several of the fastest drivers in our hill limb series were talking around the campfire. We agreed that bad fast cars were not all that much fun after the first blast! Public roads are like trying to walk a hungry tiger on a dog lead! Oddly, we seem to appreciate underpowered "dalies".
