Im so excited. I wasnt supposed to get mine until phase 2. However, my sister in law is a pharmacist and she called and said they had a no-show for the J&J vaccine...and if I could get to her within 20 minutes, I could have it. I know people are sick of hearing about vaccines...but Ive got no one else to share it with and Im just thrilled.

(10,598 posts)I got mine on 3-9. My arm felt fine, but I was dragging all day long today, I feel run down. I don't have a temperature. I got up to work, checked my email and took a nap. Feeling a little better tonight, see what tomorrow brings.
Where I went to get my vaccine was the most unsafe environment I've been in since March of 2020. No social distancing, people crammed into high school lobby. It was efficient though, took a total of 45 minutes, the line went around the school, and this is a big high school.

(24,722 posts)I felt fine all evening with nothing but a sore arm until about 10pm. I got some chills that lasted most of the night. I went to bed and turned on the heated mattress pad and slept pretty well. I woke up feeling great! Ive got a full day planned and dont feel anything other than the sore arm. Hope that will be that. Be sure to tell us how you do.

(24,722 posts)I have a coworker who is working the lines at one of our local vax centers. Two weeks ago I gave him a list of people they can call who can show up on short notice who want/need the vaccine. I didnt put my name on the list...today was such a surprise and Im fortunate I can leave work on a moments notice.

(41,637 posts)Something similar happened to my sister last month. Her friend was volunteering at one of our vaccine sites and there were a few left at the end of the day. The friend called my sister and said get down here right away, we can vaccinate you today (because she knew my sister was having trouble getting an appointment.) It was short notice but Susie made it down there and got her shot. A lot of times those extra vaccines have to be thrown out because they're no good by the next day.
I do believe I read that the storage requirements for the J&J vaccine are less stringent. Leftover shots can be saved for later if they don't use it all the same day.
In a few months there will be enough for everyone to get vaccinated. But right now is very crazy and stressful.

(26,019 posts)for Friday morning for my first shot. I don't know yet if it will be Moderna or Pfizer, but Moderna is the one being given most often in my area. Was not going to mention it here because I know how frustrated I felt before, when I was not able to get one. But it is a great relief to finally be getting it. I have been thinking all day about things I will be able to do after the second shot.
I will still mask up, of course, as Fauci recommends, but I look forward to the next time some anti masking covid denier gets up close to me in a store with a bare face or naked nose. I will just say, "Nice try, but I've been vaccinated."

(9,068 posts)My daughter is 47, overweight, and worries about being diabetic.
She was concerned she wouldn't get the vaccine until perhaps May.
She lives in New Mexico.
A week ago she got called and was told to come in the next day.
She practically danced into the vaccine facility.
So, I know how it feels for you.
I'm not sick about hearing about people getting the vaccine. I feel better and better each time I hear that another one of our community got the vaccine.
I think things are really looking up. It's gonna be a good spring.

(24,722 posts)Im 56 with no health concerns, thankfully. I would have happily waited until phase 2 but Ive been putting feelers out for extra doses at the end of vax clinics and I know that they occur. Im self employed so can drop what Im doing at a moments notice most of the time. My husband will be eligible when 1C opens up...he would have taken this shot today if he couldve.

(102,804 posts)I signed up for my vaccine, don;t know which kind but I hope it's the J&J kind so I only have to go once. Lucky you but I'm also glad to hear that the J&J type is in the state. Our county ran out a couple weeks back, like the same time the J&J vaccine was approved, I was hoping it would give the county a chance to get that kind. At any rate, my category was given the green light on Monday so I am hoping I'll get my call-in soon.
Congrats!
MontanaMama
(24,722 posts)I got mine at Albertsons and I hear theyll get more next week. Maybe the whole Montana chain will get them? I was told J&J vaccines land in the pharmacy on Wednesdays and they give shots Thursday, Friday etc until theyre out. Fingers crossed for your call, my friend. 🤞

(102,804 posts)There's an Albertson's up at the county seat that has a pharmacy. I called my dr.'s office today to inquire and I was told I was put in the system and that I would be getting a call back soon. 1C category opened up on Monday so I am next in line, I guess. I don't know where I'll end up to get the shot as there are more than one location for this operation.

(24,722 posts)My husband is 1C due to BMI. I'm lurking on the vax scheduling websites hoping for an opening. He should have taken the available available vax today because I'm really phase 2 but he had his hands up the wrong side of a duck that he was sewing up and couldn't leave on short notice. He said "go go GO!" So I went.

(11,869 posts)My local Kroger had me on their pharmacy list. While on a brief stop at the store, one of the associates who knew me said I was on the list and if I wanted a shot go ASAP to the pharmacy. A shot was available after a person just "canceled" their appointment! I was so excited I could barely relate my personal information coherently. I was in and out from the first contact with the associate to having the shot in less than 15 minutes. My second Pfizer shot in three weeks!

(11,869 posts)As I was wearing a mask, a friend I happened run into at the store noticed my excitement, and said "what'd you do get your shot?" We had a good laugh as I said, "how perceptive you!...Yes I just got it, how could you tell"...she said she felt the same way after her first!!!

(30 posts)I got my arm poked today, also! Pfizer #1 in a very busy, very smooth operation at my local health department. I'd been watching their online site for registration to open up to my group and hit the jackpot last week, even picking out my appointment time online from what appeared to be very few openings.
My good wishes to all still waiting to secure an appointment. I am the first in my immediate family to get poked, and it happened much sooner than I thought. I am so grateful.

(10,436 posts)We were scheduled. I am having some chills but my husband isn't feeling any ill effects. I didn't realize how emotional I would be until a woman, who was waiting for her 15 minute watch time to be up, cheered us as we left. It's been exactly one year and two days since I've seen my mom. I cannot wait to hug her again. Congratulations to you. ❤️
