I get he's a rich and powerful man and all, but I really do think that he's tested the limits of impropriety that even somebody like him wouldn't be able to get away with -which means I do think he will be indicted relatively soon. What say you?

(7,615 posts)People like Trump are immune to the same laws that you and I are held to. He knows that and acts accordingly. There is no doubt that we have an injustice system system in America and that is nothing new.

(25,471 posts)Ken Paxton was indicted 6 years ago in Texas and he isn't even remotely near trial.
Obviously, a lot will depend on the charges, jurisdictions, etc.

(32,083 posts)He'll probably be convicted of things, but I suspect he'll more likely have assets confiscated than see prison time, sadly.

(6,176 posts)I don't think it would be wise to put him in prison.
Maybe they could build him a house alongside the golf course on Camp David.

(32,083 posts)he'll most likely wind up getting assets confiscated. Which is acceptable. Like Billy Valentine said in "Trading Places," the best way to hurt rich people is by turning them into poor people. I think his three oldest children and his son-in-law may see inside of a prison, though. Probably Eric's wife, too.

(25,938 posts)My prognostication skills leave much to be desired. I also tend toward optimism, so there's that. In a just world, he would have been indicted many long years ago, so we shall see whether it comes at long last. I believe the weight of evidence will lead to his indictment.

(111,256 posts)but his money will keep the trial from going forward while he runs out the clock on the rest of his rotten life unless this country is stupid enough to elect another Republican president, in which case a pardon will save him from Federal charges.
He'll still have to fight state charges for the rest of his life, along with civil suits.

(7,220 posts)Unfortunately this could spin out for many years, with him yelling "witch hunt" etc. the whole time, impugning the names of those who try to bring justice.
The best thing that can be done is numerous indictments in numerous jurisdictions, whittling away at whatever funds his idiot followers provide for his defense. There's also the fact that no one will want to represent him, so we've got that in our favor.

(14,311 posts)because Trump knows a real AG and state prosecutors won't put up with his shit. He specifically did not want to be in the position he is in right now, vulnerable and exposed.
Hell, Barr even pressured DeutscheBank and other firms not to cooperate with NY. We have no idea how many other loose ends are out there, but we do know the crimes he committed in plain sight.

(7,413 posts)I don't see how you aggressively pursue Trump without it looking like the left doing the same thing.
Even though they aren't equivalent, it creates a real optics problem.
Routinely locking up members of outgoing administrations is something that Third World countries do. Again, optics.

(1,896 posts)That person is already imprisoned in many ways, most of them by his own doing. He can't go anywhere, he can't reenter business or entertainment, or ever get the numbers supporting him to rise. Enough of his well heeled acolytes, now betrayed, will begin the chants. It will be the republicans seeking punishment and revenge. As always.

(24,289 posts)but so far all I've seen is people who seem to want to make a career out of investigating everything endlessly. Best chance of him being charged with anything is in Georgia, I think.

(7,413 posts)The Georgia call is a problem but doesn't quite rise to the level of making him convictable in my opinion.

(10,177 posts)election law criminal case, making him an unindicted co-conspirator. Unfortunately, prosecutors chose not to pursue an indictment against Trump.
flibbitygiblets
(7,220 posts)that's not the case now. Conviction of a felony, regardless of whether incarceration is a factor, would make it pretty hard for him to run for POTUS again.

I hope Berman re-opens the case and files charges against Trump.

(16,202 posts)Or I will lose faith in this system of ours. Indicted .. yes. Punished.. yes! If no one is above the law, then practice what ya preach. Am I vindictive..not really. I want justice and that is all.
