Majority of Americans say worst of pandemic is behind us: CNN poll

The majority of Americans feel like the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic is over, according to a new CNN Poll conducted by SSRS.

The study, conducted via phone March 3-8, asked a sample of 1,009 respondents above the age of 18 various coronavirus-related questions.

Over three-quarters of those surveyed said they felt that the worst of the pandemic had already happened, with 77 percent indicating so - a large increase from a poll taken Jan. 9-14, when just under half (49 percent) indicated feeling that way.

The pandemic still remained the top concern for many Americans (30 percent) out of a list that included the economy, racial injustice and more. Less people feel that way than they did in January, however, when 46 percent of respondents cited it as their primary issue.

Not that we are in the clear - 4th of July is the goal as President Biden is spelling out now - bu tits way better than it was.

It is in many ways now. We have solid guidance and a national plan, which we lacked before. I feel much more confident in our general trajectory now than I did 6 months ago.

But it is important to note that there is a difference between “worst is behind us” and “only gets better from here”

Things could backslide and get bad again. I just don’t think they will ever get as bad as winter just was.

I think the real question is between these two possibilities. I think continually better is possible due to the outstanding medical advancements in vaccines. But the other possibility is also there based in variants and returning to bad behavior too soon.

I am actually an optimist (which is not my default position) on this so I actually think we will have continued improvement with only statistically small bumps along the way. But I am not naive enough to believe it is certain.
