The context here is that as Texas attorney general, Cornyn gave an award to a crooked cop later exposed by Gupta for framing 38 mostly black Texans for crimes they didn’t commit, and he has not only not forgiven her for it, he thinks he can pretend it never happened.

Senator John Cornyn

The nominee for Associate AG Vanita "Gupta graciously pledged to stop attacking people on Twitter if confirmed. But if confirmed she won’t need Twitter to go after her political opponents. She will have the power of the U.S. government behind her.

That’s scary." @powerlineblog

On how Vanita Gupta’s heroic work exposing a racist, rogue cop in Tulia, TX as a young @NAACP_LDF lawyer also exposed the judgment of then-state AG (now Senate Judiciary Cmtee member)John Cornyn.

Cornyn named the corrupt cop “lawman of the year.” He’s not concerned about Gupta, because he knows her judgment is better than his. He doesn’t like that she made him look like an idiot. https://nytimes.com/2003/04/28/opinion/the-tulia-story-isn-t-over.html?referringSource=articleShare
