People on the media, people in my circle of friends and family - everyone who shook their heads at my enthusiasm for his candidacy.
I'm not right about a whole lot of things, but damn it, I was sure right about Joe.

(3,392 posts)So after we fight abut politics, being careful not to insult each other, we go back to our sibling relationship...trump and the republicans have done too much damage, and continue to do so, I am not going to let them destroy my family.

(5,128 posts)Most of the people who are of the MAGA variety that I am around won't do it. The man pushed that bill through, got the people some desperately needed help (with more on the way), their lives will be better for it. and they still won't admit he will be a good thing. And, it is not the lunacy of a QANON and they are not ranting about masks like some Wal-Mart Karen... they just are too programmed to hate... and I love it when they use that word, as I am so confused how you can 'hate' someone when you do not know them nor have any idea about them. They have been programmed to hate Democrats, even if some of them really have no idea about why we are different and why we are the same. They just have to have something to transfer on, and they have picked Democrats. There is no reasoning with them. There is no way there will be any consideration nor compromise. The party of hate has to go. We should be chanting this all over the country every single morning and night. The rethug party has to go!

(26,262 posts)I'm a big admirer of both of those individuals. I did feel, to the core of my soul, that Joe Biden was the perfect candidate for this time in history. We had lots of great discussions about our choices. They have all now admitted that I was right.
I have 2 cousins who are confirmed trump* fans and I really have little to nothing to do with one them, outside of family funerals. The other will only come to a gathering if we all promise to NOT discuss politics.

(1,306 posts)I got an anti-democratic party pro maga family member who vehemently trashes dems day-in and day-out
Ask him about what policies he wants enacted, however, and it's Democratic Party policies up and down the line.
But, when the dems actually pass those policies.. he complains that they're destroying the country.
So, anyway, he has stopped speaking to me because I pointed out that all his policy beliefs are in-line with the Democratic Party.
Now that is someone who is brainwashed.

(54,378 posts)He wasn't even a declared candidate when I decided on my first choice (Jay Inslee, in April 2019). When Jay dropped out of the race, I had no first choice, but I did have a prediction, and that was, indeed, Joe Biden. I got asked often enough why, and my answer was always, who else are we going to run who can do the job from day one, and at whom the Republicans could point no fingers?

(47,430 posts)he announced he was running. Like so many die-hard Biden supporters, I am really enjoying listening to all the praise he is receiving from those who expressed doubts throughout the primary.
My longtime support of Joe Biden is probably the most right I have ever been when it comes to politics. And he has exceeded even my very high expectations! I am very happy.

(19,066 posts)Have a couple who have been anti Biden, but they're really just in shock right now. Joe has really hit the ground running for the Left Wing of the Democratic party. His messaging and image is still centrist, but he's governing from the left and strikes a populist tone that is resonating with most Bernie supporters.
Of course they still want more and blame Biden somehow for the $15 MW not being included in the bill, but I think most Bernie fans are tentatively very happy with what he's gotten done so far. Really been great on the environment so far.
I do think Joe going out and talking about this bill is needed, I still don't think the average leftist gets that this bill has a ton in it that leftists have been working for for decades.
"In my view, this is the most significant legislation for working people that has been passed in decades," Bernie Sanders said

(54,378 posts)No matter who got elected as a Democrat, there were always going to be those who would yell and scream due to our new president not having cured cancer, ended poverty, or negotiated world peace within 48 hours of being inaugurated. They are part of the "What Biden needs to do" crowd I mentioned in an OP earlier.
Not only that, there are such people who claim to be on our side (though more like their own), and yet maintain the same stance. But they will never be satisfied, and that's just something we all should accept.
We're 51 days into his administration, and even here on DU we have the occasionally poster throwing their hands in the air and giving up on some issue.
$15 MW is one of Biden's top priorities, he put it in the ARP, unfortunately the Senate had to take it out. Doesn't mean that he and Bernie won't work together as hard as possible to get it done, they will, and I'd bet they will find a way to get it through.

(981 posts)I knew when he choose her to be his running mate it would be a great team. I do still wish her role would be more public. I'm sure she's doing a lot behind the curtain, but it would be nice to see her be more visible in media coverage.

(31 posts)My husband and I voted for him in the SC primary after much thought and debate and against the wishes of every Dem we knew.
We decided he had the best chance of beating Trump, and that was our life-or-death priority. Bonus that hes so effective and on the mark as president.
Between the primary and general, we moved to PA and voted here as well.
Weve patted ourselves on the back a couple of times.

(26,262 posts)When I was young, we always saw "May Day" as a celebration of Spring. I used to pick a bouquet of dandelions or what ever I could find, put them on the porch, ring the doorbell and then "hide" to watch my mom answer the door and see the flowers.
Flash forward to when I was an "A" School instructor, in the Navy. One May 1, I wrote 'HAPPY MAY DAY!!' with drawings of a couple of flowers on the chalk board. In strolls Captain Richardson, and the look on his face was priceless. Apparently, celebrating ancient festivals of Spring were not a part of his childhood experience. Fortunately, after a brief explanation about things like Maypoles, we both had a good laugh.

(25,979 posts)That's so sweet you picked flowers for your mother. May Day was still a thing, though muted, back in the sixties when I was growing up. It disappeared somewhere along the way, which is a shame. Poor Captain Richardson. It took me a second to realize his misunderstanding. I can see how that would have confused him mightily. 😄

(4,168 posts)I have never in my life been happier to be completely off-base in my assessment of a candidate. Both my wife and I were talking about this just last night, how surprised (and really really pleased) we are with Biden just out of the starting gate. He's not only exceeded our expectations for him (an admittedly low bar), but for any person stepping into the role.
Feel free to yell "I told you so!" -- We're all better off for you being right.

(4,168 posts)My "consolation" when Biden won the nomination was that he had such a wealth of experience to draw on that I conceded he might well be the best person to rebuild all the institutions that Trump had torn down. My concern, however, was that Biden would play it "safe" so he didn't upset the status quo. So his boldness once he took office surprised me. Instead of being an experienced bureaucrat, he's an experienced leader. That leadership quality makes all the difference, doesn't it?

(14,574 posts)I have to confess that a) he was not my first choice, and b) I had some doubts about him going in, though I did support him when he became our nominee.
So there it is - eating some crow, because Joe Biden is clearly the president for this time. He is going to be transformational, if Congress can find a way to actually get bills to the floor - maybe modify the filibuster in some way.
I'm proud of Biden, and he makes me be proud to be an American - something I felt under Obama, of course, but something that went completely missing under the traitor-tot.

(52,161 posts)from the Obama years, turns out he did. I am very glad I was wrong. I had felt he would be Obama 2.0 in terms of seeking cooperation from the GOP for months as momentum slowed to a crawl. He didn't and I am so glad I was wrong.
