For years, the GOP has been cultivating the racists, the one-issue voters, and those resentful of "the intellectual elite." But this was just a cynical poll by savvy old guard GOPers... but then what happened? These resentful racist one-issuers started deciding to start running for office... and they utilized that base of their cohort to take office. The TEA party politicians are the same kinds of people as the TEA party themselves... uneducated and completely indoctrinated by twenty years of Rush and Faux. Now the Old Guard is prisoner to their electorate because Old Guard Republicans have seen their own taken down by TEA party candidates... so now they either have to pander to these people, or they get supplanted by a TEA Partier... and soon, there will be no Old Guard left, only the crazy fringe.
