Fox Fiends: "Biden, stop talking about 'the 500,000 dead'; quit kicking Trump 'in the groin.'"

Breaking wind:

Fox News host says Biden should stop talking about 'the 500,000 dead' and quit kicking Trump 'in the groin'

A Fox News host chided President Biden for dedicating part of his speech to the COVID-19 death toll.

"We don't need to go over the 500,000 dead. We had that moment," Brian Kilmeade said Friday.

Kilmeade said Biden doesn't give the Trump administration credit and "kicks them in the groin."

ABC and the rise of Rush Limbaugh

The following brief history of ABC offers a perfect snapshot of everything that has gone wrong with the media. This remarkable story includes ABC's takeover by a conservative parent corporation, the demise of the Fairness Doctrine, the rightward shift of the evening news, the rise of conservative talk radio, and the cozy relationship between a state and a press that are supposed to be separate.

Excerpt...

Rush Limbaugh explains his success as the result of his individualism, of his refusal to do it someone's else's way. But the fact is that his success has been orchestrated, financed and promoted by Capital Cities/ABC. He also seems extraordinarily well-connected to the Republican leadership in Washington, carrying out their campaign strategies so faithfully that it is difficult to distinguish his promotions from their campaign commercials. For example, when Rush's television show debuted nationally two months before the 92 election, his producer was Roger Ailes, who was Bush's media advisor throughout the campaign. Many of the themes that Ailes had inspired earlier in the campaign showed up in identical form on Rush's show, which resembled a program-length commercial for the Bush campaign. When asked to give equal time to his opponents, Rush responded "I am equal time!"

In 1994, not only the Rush Limbaugh Show, but hundreds of other conservative talk shows dutifully raised the issues that Newt Gingrich's Contract Information Center faxed to them each morning about the Contract With America. Many went so far as to read them verbatim over the air. And when the Republicans captured Congress in 1994, they held a ceremony in honor of Limbaugh, naming him "an honorary member of Congress" and "the Majority Maker." That night, the conservative propaganda machine had reached its full potential.

Writer Dan Benbow has created two resources filled with facts and sources.

Anatomy of a man-made disaster: Here are 595 hard facts about Trump’s abysmal COVID-19 response

Example: On February 1, 2018, the Washington Post reported that “CDC to cut by 80 percent efforts to prevent global disease outbreak” (7): “The global health section of the CDC was so drastically cut in 2018 that much of its staff was laid off (8) and the number of countries it was working in was reduced from 49 to merely 10. Meanwhile, throughout 2018, the U.S. Agency for International Development and its director, Mark Green, came repeatedly under fire from both the White House and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. (9) And though Congress has so far managed to block Trump administration plans to cut the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps by 40 percent (10), the disease-fighting cadres have steadily eroded as retiring officers go unreplaced.” (11)

and...

Anatomy of a man-made disaster: Here are 370 ways Donald Trump failed to keep us safe from the coronavirus

Example: In the second week of May, 2018, “the White House pushed Congress to cut funding for Obama-era disease security programs, proposing to eliminate $252 million in previously committed resources for rebuilding health systems in Ebola-ravaged Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. (13) Under fire from both sides of the aisle, President Donald Trump dropped the proposal to eliminate Ebola funds a month later. But other White House efforts included reducing $15 billion in national health spending (14) and cutting the global disease-fighting operational budgets of the CDC, NSC, DHS, and HHS. (15) And the government’s $30 million Complex Crises Fund was eliminated. (16)

“The White House proposal ‘is threatening to claw back funding whose precise purpose is to help the United States be able to respond quickly in the event of a crisis,’ said Carolyn Reynolds, a vice president at PATH, a global health technology nonprofit.

Fox News pushed coronavirus misinformation 253 times in just five days

WRITTEN BY ROB SAVILLO
RESEARCH CONTRIBUTIONS FROM LIS POWER, TYLER MONROE, OLIVIA LITTLE & JULIE TULBERT
Media Matters, PUBLISHED 07/16/20

Fox News repeated coronavirus misinformation 253 times in its weekday coverage from July 6 through 10, including claims that undermined scientific research about the pandemic, eroded trust in public health experts and policy recommendations, called for reopening schools and businesses without regard to public health precautions, and politicized the country’s response to the virus.

This avalanche of misinformation comes on the heels of a report from Yahoo News earlier this month claiming that Fox’s messaging on the coronavirus was undergoing a “remarkable turn” from its earlier coverage to “acknowledge ... that the coronavirus is a far graver threat.” As this report will show, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

From July 6-10, Fox News pushed coronavirus misinformation 253 times:

* Nearly half of Fox’s coronavirus misinformation was about the science of coronavirus and health recommendations from experts (115 instances).

* Fox politicized recommended public health measures, such as face masks usage and business closures, 63 times.

* Fox emphasized the economy and reopening schools 46 times despite public health concerns.

* Fox’s The Ingraham Angle was responsible for a quarter of all coronavirus misinformation on the network.

* Fox’s “straight news” shows accounted for more than one-third of all coronavirus misinformation.

Fox is first to lie because it takes about 20 times the lie’s volume in truth to change understanding in the open-minded. The closed minds, in most instances, cannot be changed. Hence Dump’s Base.
