I began 2021 assuming I would be vaccinated around Thanksgiving; didn't quite turn out that way.
I live in Florida - a state firmly in the COVID shit show category of states. I figured Thanksgiving was reasonable and August was optimistic.
I would never fake my way into eligibility to get vaccinated and was prepared to wait my turn. I had started to hear some chatter that appointments weren't being used - I suspect eligible folks may have made appointments at several facilities and then didn't cancel the unneeded appointments - so I volunteered to be a "reservist."
I put the word out that I was willing to drop everything and sprint to a vaccination site at a moment's notice if any unused doses needed to go into an arm fast. That strategy paid off. I got my first Moderna shot today along with a handful of other non-eligible folks who had done the same thing.
Given my experience, Biden's speech, optimistic news about production and deployment capabilities, and the Novavax efficacy announcement; I really do have the sense that we've turned a corner and are picking up steam. A lot of it.
For those still waiting, I know it is tough to watch all these vaccination announcements and wonder if it will ever be your turn. It will be and probably surprisingly sooner than you may think. Thank %^&* Biden was elected president!
