Obviously, it's the same building that it's always been, both before and after the Former Office Occupant held root there.
But in the past four years, whenever I saw footage of the building, it just felt different knowing that creature laid claim to it. It felt bastardized, cheapened, bespoiled. Everything about it was more or less the same, but with the lack of legitimacy and sense of corruption that surrounded all things Trump, it just did not feel like the White House.
It felt almost like a movie set, constructed to look like the White House in some lot thousands of miles away, but not actually the White House itself.
And I had never felt that way about the White House before. Even during the Bush years, the building itself still felt like the People's House regardless of who resided there.
Now that we have a true President once again, all the aura and sense of history that was missing the previous four years has returned. You see President Biden walking along the Colonnade, and it's as if you could actually see the ghosts of JFK and RFK standing there, like in the old photographs. You saw the President's speech yesterday in the East Room and you remember watching President Obama announce the mission that killed Bin Laden.
That rarified air and sense of living history seems to have returned. At least for me.
Anyone else feel the same?

(1,089 posts)Has the mission
" to protect, preserve, and provide public access to the rich history of America's Executive Mansion". The sponsor of the society is always the First Lady since the society was founded by Jackie Kennedy. I often wondered how they felt having a first lady like Melania as the official sponsor...she obviously hated living there. Now they have Jill Biden.....

(23,338 posts)It's just full of people capably doing their work for the country. Ho hum.
No screaming Scaramucci, no babbling Sarah Sanders, nobody talking about the size of their electoral win or the size of the inaugural audience. No slumlord advisors, no white-power advisors.
Boring.
Just plain old competence at work.
