TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) Florida Republicans moved Wednesday to rewrite vote-by-mail rules, banning ballot drop boxes and resetting the absentee ballot rolls in a step that would require millions of voters to reapply for mail-in ballots ahead of next year's gubernatorial and U.S. Senate elections.
Republicans characterized the changes as mere tweaks in a system that was universally praised after November's presidential election for both the record number of mail-in votes cast and for the nearly glitch-free handling of those ballots.
But Democrats and voter rights advocates charged that political motives were behind the efforts in Florida and elsewhere, asserting there's no reason to tinker with a system that isnt broken.
Changing the vote-by-mail process, especially following a major election, makes no sense unless youre looking for ways to confuse voters into not voting or to make it harder so they dont vote, said Trish Neely, speaking on behalf of the Florida League of Women Voters of Florida.

I went 7 times for the November election and nope didnt question party just put out there that Id be collecting them so that 77 of us didnt have to drive 35 minutes to drop off. I didnt mind and I walked them into the office. They were sealed and signed. No big deal. Now only immediate family members can. Pisses me off!!!!!

(23,336 posts)... that's used for any communication with city hall: letters to mayor or council, property tax payments, etc. A ballot is just one more envelope, heading to the clerk's office.
A city the size of Miami or Orlando would certainly need more than one box, but are those boxes reserved for ballots only? Or for city business in general?
