Daylight-saving time starts on Sunday. Some US senators are trying to get rid of the clock-change

ritual.

Democrat and Republican senators don't often agree, but they seem to share a similar dislike of changing clocks.

On Sunday at 2:00 a.m., most clocks in North America will move forward one hour, kicking off daylight-saving time (DST) in 2021. The time change will lead evenings to stay lighter later as spring approaches.

But a bipartisan group of eight senators, including Marco Rubio from Florida and Ed Markey from Massachusetts, reintroduced a bill on Wednesday that would make the time change permanent. If the Sunshine Protection Act of 2021, as it's known, passes, the US wouldn't switch to standard time in the fall. The ritual of falling back and springing forward by an hour every year would be over.

Both Florida and California voted to switch to DST permanently in 2018, but federal law stipulates that Congress must approve any such move. At least 15 other states have passed similar laws. Hawaii and most of Arizona already do not observe DST.

But I'd rather go to work in the dark if it meant there was still a little day left after work.

You are farther north than Michigan.

You would have sunlight at 4AM in June if you had permanent standard time.

Could even be before 4AM the sky would lighten at 48 deg N, if you are in WA State.

In northern hemisphere at 12 noon the sun is directly south. Surprisingly, in the southern hemisphere it is directly north. Why change a good thing?
Whatever the time is, wherever you live, the sun is going to rise and set with X amount of daylight hours. Why we even have daylight savings time is a bunch of bullshit. Adjust your life not your clock!

"Solar noon is when the sun appears the highest in the sky, compared to its positions during the rest of the day. It occurs when the Sun is exactly halfway between sunrise (dawn) and sunset. This is also the origin of the terms a.m. and p.m., ante meridiem and post meridiem. At solar noon, the sun is due south seen from the Northern Hemisphere, and due north seen from the Southern Hemisphere. The sun is directly overhead at solar noon at the equator on the equinoxes; at Tropic of Cancer (latitude 23½°N) on the summer solstice in June; and at Tropic of Capricorn (23½°S) on the winter solstice in December. "

"In most cases, it doesn't happen at 12 o'clock."

Messes me up for a week both ways, forward and back. We abolished here in WA state, but can’t implement it because congress has some kind of say in the matter. I don’t care which one they pick, daylight savings time or not, just pick one and quit changing it. Grrrrrr.

The older I get the spring forward is more and more like jet lag. I would favor just staying with standard time but if it's permanent DST, I'll live with it.

Which was the case until 1918 when the US officially adopted the time zone system started by the railroad in 1883.

It's all about the work schedule, so just change the schedule instead of the clock itself.

Then the clock purists don't have to be offended by solar noon happening around 1pm and the DST afficianados would get their start early, quit early workday with the extra hour of light year round, no clock change needed ever again, win win win.
