They are trying to go after Eminem now. No surprise. It will only get worse. FUCK THE PC POLICE. These clowns need to get a life. If you are one of these folks that feels a need to go after artists like this, piss off. This old punk rocker aint having it and no I am not a conservative in any way, shape or form. I am a Frank Zappa Democrat. These are ARTISTS not preachers and politicians. Political correctness leads to boring art, boring people, mediocrity, fear, division and stupidity. We dont need to return to the Tipper Gore era bullcrap. I am with the left but on this front, you progs have fucking lost your minds.

(17,622 posts)We dont know who is behind any of that and Im not taking Yahoos word for it.
Eminem writes and raps for us when we really need him. I wouldnt put it past the wingers to try to take him down a notch or two.

(13,911 posts)should be given a wider latitude when evaluating their art. Eminem isnt for everyone but he has a right to rap about what he wants to. Im a huge Frank Zappa fan. I certainly dont agree with all his lyrics, especially those that are misogynistic. But hes a brilliant composer and guitar player and hell always be on my playlist.

(20,482 posts)(Tipper Gore?).
But I want to ask a question:
When an artist creates something interesting, isnt it almost by definition controversial? I mean, if the whole world went yeah, hes right!, I dont think the artist has said anything interesting.
So, that being said, why you gettin so upset over the controversy that you want art to be?
Or are you really just wanting a chance to say you progs have fucking lost your minds?

(26,047 posts)So, maybe not use that term and have that POV. He also called himself a "practical conservative," and was basically a Reagan Democrat.
So, why exactly are you stating you are a practical conservation, using "PC Police," and think PC is bad? And, you STILL think any of that is progressive or Democratic ideals?

(35,038 posts)It only magically exists to terminate thoughts associated with the left. Isn't that funny?
What the sharpest thinkers on the American Right saw quickly was that by declaring war on the cultural manifestations of liberalism - by levelling the charge of political correctness against its exponents - they could discredit the whole political project. Rush Limbaugh, the right-wing talk-show host, talking about 'feminazis', is part of the same movement as Allan Bloom, whose seminal book, The Closing of the American Mind , argues that political correctness has infected the US's capacity to think. This is the populist battering-ram behind which the Right makes the case for tax cuts for the wealthy and welfare minimalism for the poor.

Other than some shrewd observers, you don't see "... the PC police" when conservatives are demanding they be called "freedom fries" or when they want to boycott companies when the cashier says "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas".

(101,271 posts)Is that "police"? Are you saying they shouldn't be allowed to express a negative view on Eminem? Because that's all they've done.

(35,038 posts)Hutton believes that the term "politically correct" is just a weapon to be used against Liberals and the income and racial equality that Liberals bring to the table. "Political correctness is one of the brilliant tools that the American Right developed in the mid-1980s as part of its demolition of American liberalism....What the sharpest thinkers on the American Right saw quickly was that by declaring war on the cultural manifestations of liberalism - by leveling the charge of political correctness against its exponents - they could discredit the whole political project."

(35,038 posts)But if Tipper Gore is such a concern to you, it also sounds like you should be worried about the horse-and-buggy and the telegram being "canceled".
"While its debatable if people even want to cancel Eminem"
- From the very article you link to. That means one can say it's not even happening

Ive always liked Eminem. Hell I like a lot of Kanye. I am never a fan of things that do harm but frankly most people do harm at one point or another. I can love some of the work and hate some. I can love the work and hate the artist. Ad infinitum.
And yeah, I have a line.
