2. I've known two people with Type 1 diabetes..

and I’ve seen both of them behave out of character when their sugar was out of whack. Sometimes, it was the first clue. But I never heard them say anything that wasn’t already part of their vocabulary. So, a racist with a sugar spike is still a racist.

I was sitting in class some years ago when the instructor, who was normally a very nice person, started acting very weird and snapping at people. I asked her if she was okay, and she then recognized what was going on. She adjourned class and we walked together to get her a snack.

I think she was a little embarrassed about it. I considered her as much a friend as an instructor. We had some great conversations before and after class. This was during one of my "reinvention of myself" phases and I was an older student. I wish we'd kept in touch, but we both had busy lives back then.

I agree with you about the racist. I'm not buying that guy's excuse either.

It does exist. Everywhere. Hell, I moved to what was supposed to be a bastion of progressive blueness, and discovered that the racism here is just like my very rural, southern home town. There are white people around here that literally run from anything darker than a manila folder, and whine about the silliest things, which basically translate into: "Know your place!". It is way past time for things to change, but the rot that is racism is way deeper than most people want to admit. We need consequences with teeth, otherwise, it is just a propaganda show. In fact, I would love to see footage of the arrests of a few of those seditionists, because I bet they were way more civil and de-escalated due to pale-ness than the arrests I saw from a few of those BLM marches. There was just an article on this site about cops boasting over beating a black man... you reckon he thinks that racist privilege no longer exists?

...but usually it is not a sugar spike but hypoglycemia that causes more erratic behavior... my late husband was a veteran of war and once he injected insulin without eating and woke in the night thinking I was the enemy... pretty scary stuff

What you describe is so true. Hubster calls it “red lining”. I keep it pretty much under control, and he is good at reminding me when we might be in a situation where I can’t eat for a long time, but every now and then, I still get in screaming FEED ME mode. I’ve never hurled racial epithets at anyone. I mostly just rant and rave for food.
